Inspiration Books

December 3rd, 2008 @ 4:14 pm by Wiley Valentine

I admit it… I am a magazine addict! And much to my husband's dissapointment I just cannot bring myself to throw any away! So these “inspiration books” are my solution. I go through my old magazines (usually a combo of Domino, InStyle, Lucky, Martha Stewart, among others) and tear out the pages I like best. I then paste them into blank sketchbooks and ta dah!!

They serve as my permanent inspiration board in a book form. I try and paste things according to categories or themes. I can't tell you how many times we have thumbed through these before starting a new line of products. It works every time!

I’ve always been meaning to sit down and do this! I’d love to make inspiration books by color.

I’m like Bee… always dedicated to the IDEA of preservation and idea gathering… but the act of actually doing it?! That’s why there are wonderful people like you out there to gain inspiration from!! Thanks so much for sharing!!

I do this - ALL of the time. It is a wonderful way to cultivate your style. Everything becomes very clear. Oh, I like yellow and grey together. This shape keeps re-appearing, etc.

diana — i believe they’re just plain sketchbooks that you can purchase at any stationery/office supply store.

I just use plastic sleeves and three-ring binders, so they I can organize topically—and put together colors/themes later…great post!

Yes i just by them at a borders or barnes and nobles. They are blank sketchbooks. Then just take your old magazines, cut + paste and there you have it!!

[...] can see it’s kind of busting at the seems. What Eric does is stick them in books similar to what I have done with my old magazines. Brilliant!! I am so excited about this; I think I might just go home and start this project [...]
