Flower Details

December 12th, 2008 @ 10:24 am by Nancy @ Nancy Liu Chin Designs

It's in the fine details. Sometimes as a floral designer, it's hard to sometime think outside the box. One of things that I challenge myself with is to make things look exceptional, different. Exceptional design comes in many forms - unusual materials, unique interpretation, or detailed finishing work. This purple handbag is just one example of how I try to reinvent something out of the materials I already have within my reach.

By using very simple materials like round pinks, fabric ribbons, a block of Oasis and a wooden handle found at many fabric supply stores, I was able to transform my floral supplies into a handbag that replaces a traditional basket.

For the boutonnieres, I took a Phalenopsis orchid plant and removed a perfect bloom. I used jasmine vine that I grow in my front “garden”. This creates a unique look with resources that I have at my disposal.

As for the centerpieces. It's hard to find a container that matches unique and trendy colors. Inside of looking for a “deep eggplant” glass container, I took a low rectangular cube and covered it with two tones of ribbon which I found at my local floral supply store. Once again, I created a simple centerpiece with carnations and tulips, but made it look different by adding a two tone trim with ribbon.

I encourage all of you to think outside the box! :)

Handbag (with bamboo handle, a la Gucci), orchids, purple . . . what is not to love about this?

The hues are so gorgeous in this set of pictures! Great ideas of how to incorporate saturated colors, not only in the flowers, but in their containers, too.
