Ribbon Decor

December 16th, 2008 @ 12:05 pm by Nancy @ Nancy Liu Chin Designs

A few years back, I was working at Kohl Mansion on a photo shoot for a local magazine called Today’s Bride.  During the photo shoot while I was waiting for the photographer and stylist to get all their important shots for the spread, I had some extra time on my hands. I wanted to create something around the beautiful doors of the mansion leading out to the gracious courtyard.

It had to be something interesting, but I didn’t have enough flowers to create a drape or garland over the door.  Since I brought my tool box with me - which I always keep filled with emergency supplies: glue dots, hammer, staple gun, clothed wire, floating candles, lighters - I decided to try something different.   I noticed that I had tons of these great glue dots and a box full of ribbons in different widths.  With my handle ribbon shears, I started to cut 10 feet strips of ribbon.  I created a curtain effect by attaching these long colorful strips of ribbon in a distinctive pattern.  Strips were adhered to the top of the door frame with these fabulous, extra strong, glue dots. The result - a stunning wall of color and a beautiful backdrop.

It’s ideas like this that I thrive on, that aren’t very expensive but have impact.

I have a small budget for flowers and want to do something unique in addition to the bouquets or even instead of them. I am having a formal evening wedding at an amazing venue and am desperate for any ideas!!
