Weddingbee is a fabulous website that was an important resource for me when I was planning my wedding last year. I was so surprised and excited to see an e-mail from Bee in my inbox last week and I’m honored to join Weddingbee Pro as an industry blogger. I know I’m in great company and I’m going to have a lot of fun with this opportunity!
Let’s see. I could start out talking about myself, since that is easy for me. My real name is Megan, in case that matters to you. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. I’m 22. I have a cat. I graduated with degrees in German and Intercultural Communication and now I am in grad school for Political Communication. I play Dungeons and Dragons every other Saturday. Besides creating and working with the most fabulous brides in the world, I also enjoy accounting, sprinting to the post office before it closes, and trying to pull health insurance and a retirement plan out of my butt.
However, I’m not completely alone in this venture. Besides my readers and customers, I have a valuable staff made up of my husband David and our cat, Turbo. I rely on them to run errands and package orders, play with toys in front of of me for my amusement, keep the hair they shed off my stuff, and keep my lap warm (I’ll let you figure those out).
I started Princess Lasertron in 2005 to make custom bouquets and accessories out of felt, vintage buttons, and other ephemera. At the time I also did a lot of custom embroidery. Following our wedding in 2008, Princess Lasertron began to pick up steam quickly. Features in Country Living Magazine, Wedding Essentials Magazine, Brides Local Magazines, and lots of blog love connected me with hundreds of brides who shared my love for personalized weddings that truly represent the couple and their own style. A Halloween zombie-themed wedding? Been there. Bowling alley nuptuals, rockabilly chicks, gothic soirees and every theme under the sun…it’s never boring. I’m an introvert by nature, but my favorite aspect of my job is all the people I have met. It’s endlessly inspiring.

An increasing number of brides are choosing bouquet alternatives over fresh flowers, and Princess Lasertron provides the original felt/textile bouquets. I think brides like my heirloom-quality bouquets because they last long after the vows are spoken, they are completely custom-made and unique for every bride, and the flowers are unconventional but not “weird” or hard for more traditionally-minded people to accept. I enjoy working closely with each bride through email, sending photos, and communicating about the vision each bride has to make it a truly collaborative project.

I think that the internet has been the main catalyst for the recent explosion of “alternative” weddings and the creation of a true “bridal culture.” Websites like Weddingbee have given brides, industry professionals, and other looky-loos a way to share ideas, ask for advice and opinions, and learn about bridal resources that have never before been available in the mainstream media. Just as there is someone out there for everyone, there is a dream wedding out there for everyone and you can realize it from visualization to execution. I hope you get a lot of great ideas from the amazing bloggers on Weddingbee and Weddingbee Pro, and I’m happy to be on board!
