Making sure that your wedding has those personal touches may sound easy, but it can be harder than one might imagine. How does one convey that they are a huge Grateful Dead fan? How do you incorporate that you love to travel? If your fiance is a huge baseball fan, how do you add a sports element to a formal dinner reception without being cheesy? And for one particular bride, how do you honor a loved one who has passed away ?

My bride wanted to honor her father’s past in a meaningful way. After talking to her and her planner, Tosca Clark of Tosca Productions, we focused on how the bride’s father struggled to move his family from the war torn country of Vietnam to France. Her father loved all things French, and the bride had fond memories of her youth spent in Paris. I used that as a springboard to explore ideas incorporating French details. For the placecard table, I found a tall iconic Eiffel Tower made from black thick wire, which I used as the focal point. At the base of the Eiffel Tower, I made four small arrangements using white tulips, which was a favorite flower of the bride’s. This was one of many arrangements and details that the couple added to honor their families, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled with how this wedding wove their heritage together.
So if you want to add something meaningful to your wedding, perhaps you can look to your past and honor those you love! ![]()
