About angelswanson

Your wedding coordinator should come equipped with many things: boundless enthusiasm, quick thinking, a great sense of style and of course… a well-stocked emergency kit. When I first started out, I used a large-sized stitched suitcase from paper-source.
It was pink, totally adorable, and very portable. I've now graduated to a much larger chartreuse suitcase, also from paper-source

It offers much more space and durability, but is a tad bulky. I think I have a new solution for 2009, though! ;-) I will keep you posted on that front!

Anyway, I thought it would be helpful to run through some key items that you may need on the big day. Hopefully this will also prove useful for those of you who are going without a coordinator. I know it seems like quite an investment to make for just one day, but most of the items are probably things you already own. Make sure to keep these items close at hand… just in case!

  • Safety pins (in various sizes): my #1 most-requested item.
  • Straight pins: these are great for reinforcing boutonnières and express alterations
  • Sewing kit: I have had to bust out mine on many occasions! I carry over 20 colors of thread, 5 sizes of needles and little scissors, extra buttons + snaps, etc…. just to be safe!
  • Band-aids, in various sizes. I carry Hello Kitty and Cars ones for the kiddos and sheer ones for the adults.
  • Ointment for those owwies! I prefer Brave Soldier Antiseptic Healing Ointment… one of my fave products of all time!
  • Moist towelettes + hand sanitizer
  • Chapstick
  • Visine: a more recent addition! I don't wear contacts so this is one item I never would have thought to include. Once I added it (for a client who had sensitive eyes), I have had to pull it out frequently!
  • Blister cushions + moleskin
  • Breath mints
  • Tissues (I like the Kleenex pocket packs)
  • Scissors (I bring a general purpose pair as well as a craft pair — just for paper.)
  • Long lighters, for all those candles! I am constantly buying these and always want two fresh ones in my case at all times!
  • Advil, Tylenol, Midol, etc.
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Double-sided tape
  • Hollywood Fashion Tape (to avoid those pesky wardrobe malfunctions!)
  • Lotion
  • Nail file/emery board
  • Nail clippers
  • Bobby pins (brown & black)
  • Ouchless hair bands
  • Floss
  • Mini perfume samples: Right now I'm carrying Vera Wang Signature & Éclat D'Arpège by Lanvin, two of my personal favorites to wear!
  • Aerosol deodorant
  • Hair brush & comb
  • Hair spray + gel
  • Clear nail polish
  • Lint roller
  • Tide to Go pen + Shout! wipes
  • Tums
  • Small pocket mirror

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but hopefully it gets you thinking about some commonly-used items! I have used every single item listed above! The bride should also have a touch-up kit with the makeup used that day, which many stylists will provide.

On the wedding day, I transform into seamstress, hair stylist, and personal assistant. I arrive, darling suitcase in tow, ready to face whatever may arise! Preparation + Opportunity = Success!

xoxo, Angel

I like that you put up this list! I was thinking the other day, who is going to light the candles? Is it my florist or my doc?

You think of everything, dont’ya? Actually, I can totally vouch for that. Even when you were a bridesmaid in my wedding, you busted out that pink suitcase and used your handy dandy ring cleaner to clean my ring. You doted on me so much that day :)

@Vic004: Hi Vic! If your florist is providing you with all of the candles, they may be lighting them. But, I would ask your DOC and have them confirm. Either way, your DOC should come prepared to light them just in case! ;-)

@Kristin @ The Treasured Petal: I heart you, Krissy! ;-)

I used a list similar to this and created bathroom baskets for my guests & mostly everything got used, but I figured that way the stuff would be there in case I needed it, as well. If I ever end up as a BM, I’m going to throw my leftovers in a little case and bring it with me, that was a great idea Kristen gave me!

@Angel & Kristen: What kind of handy dandy ring cleaner do you use?
