Many people might think that floral designers are always creating flowers. I wish that were the case. Most of the time, I am connecting with other professionals and meeting with clients, and often I am working on nonwedding or community projects.
On Monday, I was at selection day at the de Young Museum getting ready for Bouquets to Art. This year, I am participating after taking a two year break. I will be creating one floral art display that is “inspired” by an original piece of artwork housed at the de Young’s fabulous collection. My assistant Karin will be competing in the student competition category, so it will be a very special event!
Bouquets to Art is a week long celebration where 150 floral exhibits are displayed alongside art pieces. In addition to the floral exhibit, famous floral designers from around the globe including Mark Held of Mark’s Garden and Paula Pryke will be giving lectures and demonstrations. There is also a terrific gala night where special guests can preview these works of art. Dan McCall is catering.
I wanted to show you one of the centerpieces I did in the past that was a mini version of the floral art I did in 2005.

I can’t wait for Mark’s Garden Lecture! I hope to meet you when I come up to see the exhibit. I worked with Kevin back in November (he is wonderful) and hope to work with you in the future. Your designs are stricking!
