With the economy the way that it is, I am not surprised that people want to do things themselves. Based on some of the emails that I continue to get, brides have questions on purchasing flowers from a wholesale channel. Here are things to consider.

1. Prepare. When purchasing online or from a wholesale channel, you should expect that the flowers come packed in bulk boxes. Make sure to order enough and check for any shipping instructions. Have buckets and vases ready to go, and make sure to have your supplies — like a good pair of shears and pruners. Some of the boxes that you order are assorted flowers, so be careful of this since you may get a box with varying color. Read the information before you order your flowers.
2. Check. The first thing to do when you receive your bulk box of flowers is to inspect the flowers to see if there is any mold, water spots or extreme damage. Do not be alarmed if the flowers look limp. This is normal given that these flowers have been cut, shipped, and possibly stored in a holding location for possible hours to days.
3. Hydrate. The first thing I do is to hydrate them immediately. Put them in tepid water. Of course each flower has its own way of care, but in general, put them in water and give them some floral food if you have it. Keep them in a cool location and avoid direct sunlight.
4. Relax. Have fun. Let those flowers drink at least a good day before going to work. Remember, it is the thought behind your actions that count. Don’t expect perfection.
Good luck and Enjoy!
