William Gaff @ Human Story Films's Picture
William Gaff, Washington, DC Vendor: Videography Website: Human Story Films About Me: Welcome to this conversation about wedding films. I am a filmmaker of course, but also a son and a husband and a father. In addition to those things, I consider myself to be a storyteller. However, my love for stories started long before I ever picked up a camera. Through the years I have come to believe that story is really the breath of life. I hope that these blog posts encourage the conversation not only of how great wedding films are made, but also, and maybe more importantly, why they are made.
About William Gaff @ Human Story Films

I am so pleased to present  Joth Riggs of Whitestone Productions as today's featured filmmaker.  Joth's work has inspired me a great deal since hearing of him about a year ago and seeing his work.  His cinematography and editing are perfectly executed, and his storytelling skills are among the best in the business.

This is not surprising as Joth is a seasoned film professional outside of the wedding world as well.  He is a Directors Guild of America member with a list of film and television credits that will fill an IMDB page or two. He is a great example of the current rise in experienced filmmakers and film school grads getting into wedding films,  infusing this fast growing industry with new blood.

The following clip from Joth is one of my favorite clips of the year.  I asked him to tell us a little about the event and the approach used in the filming it.

Here's what Joth wrote:

“Ryan and Kristina decided to have a very intimate wedding with only 8 of their closest family members at historic San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, and were to have a full-blown party a month later with 300 or so family and friends closer to home in San Diego.  In order for their extended family and friends to share in the experience, we were honored to produce an intimate wedding film of their day and project it at the party the next month.

With such an intimate setting, the key for us was to try and be as subtle as possible, while still capturing all the inherent emotion of the day.   The retelling of their personal love story was shot in a relaxed setting earlier in the day and gave us the opportunity to let their personalities shine through.  The use of multiple cameras during the ceremony allowed us to recreate the experience for their viewers without too much movement on the tiny balcony where the ceremony was held.

When editing this film I allowed the pacing to reflect the couple’s personality as well as the exquisite setting of their wonderful day.  Focused vows, without interruption, became personal declarations of their love for each other, and in the end, Ryan and Kristina’s celebration of love and family will always be remembered in this very intimate wedding film.”

Joth is based in Southern California but is available worldwide for filming.   Thanks Joth.

Whitestone Productions did such an AMAZING job!!! Joth and his crew were fantastic. They managed to film the special, private moments of our wedding day without us even noticing. Joth is a cinematographic artist. His attention to detail, music selection and seamless editing technique resulted in a video that rivals a Hollywood production. Ryan and I absolutely love our video and we look forward to sharing the wonderful moments & memories Joth captured on film with our friends and family for years to come.

Thank you Joth!

All the best,
Kristina

I love this video; it had me captivated all the way through. When you have a tiny wedding like this, I think videography becomes absolutely priceless, and frankly, imperative in my opinion. You’ve got to have something fabulous to show all the folks that weren’t able to be there, and this is the best way. Nice job as always, Joth!

Joth is such an easy videographer to work with. We just shot a wedding with him at the Beverly Hills Penninsula hotel and he was a pleasure to work with all day!

Stoked to see him featured!
