Get the Look

February 26th, 2009 @ 6:39 pm by Laura Nadeau @ Lo and Co

mirandaMeet Miranda.

Miranda was getting married in New Orleans and asked me if I could help her with her look.

Miranda wrote that she is “looking for a look that is sophisticated, but which doesn't draw attention to the make-up. My dress is simple, modern, 30s inspired, and unadorned. How do I create a look that will work for my outdoor daylight ceremony (around sunset) and also look good in my candlelit, indoor reception…and also look great in the pictures?”

Please check out the detailed product list and application that I created for her bridal look.

Great idea for a post! It’s so helpful to read a list of product recommendations.

In your opinion, what is the best undereye concealer out there? Is it Bobbi Brown, like you used on this bride? I’m fair-skinned with substantial undereye circles (not “I didn’t get enough sleep” circles, but real, genetic undereye shadows.) Right now, I love Benefit Erase Paste (serious coverage!). Any other recommendations?

Thank you!

Megan - the top concealers, foundations, eye shadows, and liners are very similar among the top makeup lines . The key is to find a product that 1) has the right consistency for your skin (coverage, hydration) 2) packaging that works with your lifestyle) 3) price fits your budget. I like BB concealer b/c it is very hydrating. If someone has younger oily skin I will use a M.A.C. concealer. I also love Bobbi’s eye brightener (similar to Touch eclat), which I use on top of the concealer (it is all about layering lightly for longevity). The brightener is very sheer pinky concealer which helps to neutralize gray/purple in the skin. The last thing you want is the under eye skin to look dry, but you also want something that is thick enough to cover the darkness and matte enough to stay. Apply concealer by “pushing” it into your skin with the warmth of your fingers. It looks a little “makeupy” at first but it oxidizes and absorbs into your skin for a natural look. If you want an extra boost - I recommend adding the brightener to your Benefit Erase. Otherwise, if it ain’t broke - don’t fix it!! I hope this helps.

Thank you, Laura! We Bees are so lucky to have advice from a top makeup pro at our disposal!

I forgot to mention I do have very dry skin, too. Brightner has never been enough for me on its own, but I will consider adding it to my concealer. I top mine off with Neutrogena pressed powder now. Would I add the brightner before or after the powder?

Thanks again!

Thanks Megan! Add Brightener after concealer than lightly powder. Brightener is good to use as a touch up throughout the day.
