William Gaff @ Human Story Films's Picture
William Gaff, Washington, DC Vendor: Videography Website: Human Story Films About Me: Welcome to this conversation about wedding films. I am a filmmaker of course, but also a son and a husband and a father. In addition to those things, I consider myself to be a storyteller. However, my love for stories started long before I ever picked up a camera. Through the years I have come to believe that story is really the breath of life. I hope that these blog posts encourage the conversation not only of how great wedding films are made, but also, and maybe more importantly, why they are made.
About William Gaff @ Human Story Films

The featured filmmaker this week is Bruce Patterson of Cloud Nine Creative.   Bruce is responsible for some of the most amazing wedding images I have ever seen.  His work continues to inspire many people in the wedding film industry.  I feel fortunate that Bruce was willing to not only share his work but tell us a little bit about his approach to creating this beautiful wedding film.

“Jelena and Marko had a unique and beautiful Serbian wedding at the top of Grouse Mountain in Vancouver with an elegant reception at the always glamorous Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Jelena & Marko’s wedding wasn’t only unique because of where it took place, it was also different since they don’t actually speak to each other during the ceremony! All of the rituals are in Serbian and culminate with a rousing cheer from the crowd around them which brings such a unique sense of closeness to the wedding. I don’t think there was a dry eye or a lack of a beaming smile in the whole place! Even though the heavens opened up with some torrential rain earlier in the day, the sun came out right on cue during the photoshoot and the entire bridal party was able to let loose and have a great time! It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of Jelena & Marko’s wedding and to capture it for them.”

“Our filming style is meant to be cinematic and natural at the same time. We rarely set-up shots because our clients are generally more comfortable just being themselves. We are as much watching and listening on a wedding day as we are filming. In the editing of this clip, we wanted to help set a light/fun tone but layer is with some audio of the groom’s sister’s speech to bring out the emotional feeling of the day as well. When we edit our footage, it’s really all about timing - the shots are specifically timed to song to increase it’s impact for the viewer. It creates a clip that is “going somewhere” rather than just set to 1 background song.”

Cloud Nine Creative has filmed weddings across Canada and the US and have also filmed in such far away locations like Mauritius (off the coast of South Africa).

Thanks Bruce

I like how C9C manages to get many beautiful shots without losing the story. Emotional and compelling. Very nicely done.
