Lo’s Favorite Products!

March 11th, 2009 @ 2:42 pm by Laura Nadeau @ Lo and Co

I am always asked by my clients what products I use so here is a list of the must-haves in my makeup kit. I use a variety of brands, and am always looking for products that multi-task and products that stay on as long as possible. You don't need to spend a lot of time to look gorgeous, if you are using the right products.

Skin Care/Primers

Arbonne RE9 Skincare line - this is an incredible skin care line that I can't live without. Arbonne is a network marketing company that uses essential oils that hydrate and protect the skin like nobody's business. Makeup looks so much better on hydrated supple skin and the undereye creme is a must have before applying concealer.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - I apply this on every face before I put on any foundation or concealer. It really makes a difference in longevity.

Paula Dorf Eye Primer - this product is the bomb for keeping eyeshadow in place and preventing creasing. Paula Dorf is hard to find but you can order it online at www.beauty.com.

Face

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation - a lot of oil free foundations make the skin look dry, but Laura Mercier got it right with this one. I use oil-free on most brides because it lasts longer than a moisturizing foundation.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer - this product is great because it is a big multi-tasker. It moisturizes, evens out skin tone and has a SPF to protect the skin. This is a great product for a woman to use every day who doesn't wear a lot of makeup.

Bobbi Brown Undereye Corrector/Concealer - the corrector is a pink based concealer which is great if you have a lot of darkness under your eye. The concealer can be used alone or on top of the corrector to lighten and brighten your undereye area. Bobbi's concealer is very moist which is key if your undereye area is dry.

M.A.C. Concealer - great concealer for blemishes and can be used under your eye if your skin is on the oilier side.

Eyes

Bobbi Brown Gel Liner - I love to use this with an angled eyeliner brush right on the lash line. It dries to be waterproof and is perfect for bridal or everyday. It may take a little practice, but trust me in no time you will be a pro with this.

M.A.C. Eyebrow Pencil - M.A.C.'s pencil is very thin and perfect for creating a natural looking brow. Apply with feathery strokes and it has the look of using a brow powder, but stays on all day.

Andrea #53 false lashes with Duo glue - can buy in most drugstores or at www.drugstore.com. View my how-to video.

Paula Dorf Eye Primer - this product is the bomb for keeping eyeshadow in place and preventing creasing. Paula Dorf is hard to find but you can order online at www.beauty.com.

Color

Eyeshadows - I love M.A.C., Trish McEvoy, Nars, and Arbonne eye shadows.

Cheek - Bobbi Brown - Blush and Bronzer are great and I am a big fan of Tarte cheek stain for an extra healthy glow.

Lip pencil as a primer - Use any brand lip pencil that matches the color of your lip. Fill in the entire lip and layer a gloss on top. The pencil will act as a primer because of its drier consistency and gives the gloss or lipstick something to adhere to.

Lip gloss - Laura Mercier lip glace and Bobbi Brown lip gloss.

I think I literally have a running list of make-up I need to purchase from all your awesome posts. I just wish you were in So Cal! I use Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer and I love it.

Random question…I have my engagement pictures this weekend and am doing my own make-up for ease on the budget. Do you have any tips for make-up when it comes to photography. I don’t want to look overdone, but not without make-up either.

Hey Lo!

Love the posts. I don’t wear makeup ever, but will be on the big day. What do you think about just using tinted moisturizer with no foundation? or maybe something like bare minerals? I don’t like the feeling of make up at all and neither does the fiance. Thanks :)

@MrsSl82be:
Sometimes a tinted moisturizer can be enough, but you generally will need more coverage under your eyes and around your nose. This is where you can “spot” conceal with concealer. I am not a fan of mineral foundation and it is generally more coverage than a liquid foundation. Laura Mercier, Armani, Prescriptives, Bobbi, M.A.C. Chanel, all make wonderful sheer foundations that feel like moisturizer. Start from the center of your face and blend out. No need for coverage where you don’t need it. Allow time to get used to wearing makeup. Start slowly before your wedding, so you will feel like yourself. It is amazing how quickly one gets used to wearing makeup - I having converted many!!

Dear Lo,
Thanks for your super helpful post…I was just wondering, are there any products you use on clients who have allergies to makeup or just really sensitive skin? Thanks! –Emma
