I am tickled to be a part of this fantastic blog, both with the tremendous talent of the vendors and the incredible creativity of the brides who participate in the conversations.
I was lucky to have my first interaction with Weddingbee nearly two years ago when I approached the ladies with an offer to document one of their lucky reader’s’ weddings for travel cost only, waiving my usual photography rate to escape Maine in the winter and gain some much desired destination wedding experience. I received some amazing inquiries and chose to photograph two weddings - one in Key West and one in Jamaica.
Last year, while attending the engage!08 the encore conference in Orlando, meeting Bee was a highlight. I was so happy to thank her in person for the opportunity to work with her Weddingbee readers and have since grown my destination wedding portfolio considerably. Thanks again, Bee!
So about me… I got started in photography as a wee one, and grew my interest more seriously in high school as yearbook editor in my hometown of Hollis, New Hampshire. Next at Syracuse University in New York, I earned a degree in photojournalism and was extremely fortunate to land a job as a photographer at USA Today in Washington, DC, right after graduation in 2000. I had a blast photographing at the White House and traveling for celebrity events, and then accepted a job as a photo editor at the Washington Post. The following year, I photographed my cousin’s wedding on the coast of Maine as a gift and was shocked at how much I enjoyed it (at that time editorial photographers, as a rule, generally scoffed at photographing weddings). I continued to dabble in weddings casually, and decided to leave the newspaper in 2003. It didn’t take long before photojournalistic wedding photography became a hot trend, and I was happy to be in the mix. I moved to Portland, Maine, in 2004 and opened a studio in the arts district last year. This is my sixth season photographing weddings.
I adore living in Maine. I love that there is not a traffic report on the news, that I can take my dog to the beach every day to play fetch, that a zillion tasty restaurants tempt me with cuisine comparable to a major metropolitan city, and I look forward to raising a family here one day soon. See, in addition to be a wedding photographer I am also planning my own wedding! I’m tying the knot next month on St. John in the US Virgin Islands!
