I’ve been particularly overwhelmed with amazement lately. I feel amazed by everything. I think about how miraculous it is that we as a people in this world, have figured out a way to connect all human beings together with a little thing called the Internet. Any question I have about anything, at anytime (iphone!) - I can just find the answer! And photography! After thousands of years on the earth, we figured out how to make pictures of the things we see. We found a way to make people see things through our eyes, the moment they happen. And so, some of those pioneers of photography cast their eyes through this miraculous box, and made it their business to look at everything interesting they could find. And now we get to look into the past in a way that people, for thousands of years, never had the privilege to. Amazing.
It was clean up time at the Bean house. I descended into our spooky basement to store away some boxes, when I found something I hadn’t given a thought to in years. And I felt a little ashamed - my old photos. How on earth could I forget? How could I have just left them there to rot in our flooding basement (good thing they were on a high shelf!)? My goal in life is to make pictures and preserve memories, and here they all were, my photos, which I used to so dearly treasure. I used to go through them all the time and think about how far we’ve all come. How much we’ve changed, our clothes and hair, our youthful expressions. I unearthed the box from the soot and papers surrounding it, and I’m just now going through them. And there are some I’d like to share. So since I’ll be gone, I’m going to program the blog to post each photo with a short story over the next few days. In the meantime, here’s photo number 1.
My parents. I think I look like my dad. I’m pretty sure this photo was taken on a boat in India. I have no idea who took it. I have no idea when it was taken - I think late 70’s/early 80’s. It’s the only picture I have of my parents when they were young. I have no idea how they met. I could take a guess, but both of them have told me about 10 different stories, none of which make sense, and I don’t remember any of them. There is, however an awesome picture of my mom with a shaved head when she was 18 or 19 floating around some where, that I hope to get my hands on one day!

I love the old family photos! A few years ago I undertook a project to digitize all the old photos I could find, and get copies to all of my aunt and uncles on both sides of my family. Everyone was so happy to have them.
Can’t wait to see more!
