Ribbon Resources

March 25th, 2009 @ 5:20 pm by Kimberly @ Blue Ribbon Design

It’s finally spring in New York and with the upcoming National Stationery Show, things are usually very busy. This is the time of year I spend a lot of time visiting all of my favorite shops to order trim, paper, flowers, and all the random accessories needed for special print projects and Blue Ribbon’s display at the show.

One of my favorite things to shop for is ribbon. I usually buy my ribbons directly from Midori, but if I need something for a special project in a hurry, I’ll run up to the Garment District and get what I need at M&J Trim, Tinsel Trading Company, or their sister store, The Store Across the Street. While I’m usually shopping for basic grosgrains and silk satins, I’m always tempted by the wide moiré ribbons and Tinsel Trading’s vintage metal laces and threads. Maybe someday I’ll have the opportunity to incorporate them in to a custom order….

I needed ribbon very badly last week, and couldn’t find what I truly desired… or more accurately, I did find it and there wasn’t enough for my project! It’s nice to have some more resources!

I visited M+J last week, and I can see the ribbon I picked out in that picture! :) They’ve got an almost overwhelmingly huge selection, but the sales associate who helped me was spot on in finding what I needed.

I saw a ribbon in the beginning of my wedding planning that inspired my entire color scheme. This was a two tone ribbon half blue/half green. More specifically a royal blue and an avocado green. Have you ever seen any ribbon like this? I can’t find it anywhere!

hi debbie,
i’ve seen hand-dyed silk ribbons in all kinds of shades, but not that particular color combination. hanah silk (www.hanahsilk.com) makes beautiful multi-colored ribbons in this style. jkm ribbon (www.jkmribbon.com) is another good online source for ribbons - perhaps they have what you are looking for.

I don’t even know what I would do with that ribbon, but that photo makes me want a room full of it in my house one day!
