With all of the craziness of planning a wedding, who has time to pack for the honeymoon that will inevitably follow? Like everything else related to weddings, there are people who will actually do this for you! Hello, my name is Amy Salinger, fashion stylist, and I am here to save you from your honeymoon packing crisis.

Packing, for anything, is actually much easier than people make it out to be. I think the actual stress of the idea of packing throws people off and by the time they get to the process of really doing it, they are way too far gone with overwhelming anxiety. Stop the madness and learn from a packing master.

Start by accepting that you cannot and do not need to bring the kitchen sink. You will not use all of it and with fees for carrying bags onto the aircraft soaring, why would you? You need to focus. Think about the specific occasions that will be occurring while you are on vacation; dinners, outings, lounging… What are you actually doing while you are there? Estimate the amount of times you will be doing each of these activities so you can have a number of ensembles that you need to put together. “I will have five nice dinners to go to and six days at the beach”. The toughest part is already done!

Now it is actually time to pull the clothing. Think in terms of outfits – that is why you just figured out what you will be doing while you are there!  Once you begin, place each individual look on your bed and you will see how certain pieces can translate between looks. For example, a jean jacket would be a great outer layer for any chilly evening. You do not need to bring 5 different cardigans. Choose useful, easily transferable pieces.

Also, a warm destination honeymoon makes it easy to pack smaller, lighter items and have flexibility to change the look with accessories. A head scarf will protect your hair from the sun and add a touch of fun to your bikini beach look. Pack as many as you like because they can go from day to evening by going from your head to a belt!

Also, stuff those bikinis in there because they don't take up much room and they’re a quick and easy way to feel sexy and stylish.

Comfort is key in warm places, but never give up style. You don't have too! Maxi dresses are huge this season and they also roll up very nicely. Yes, roll. Do not fold your clothing — it creases and makes for less room in your already tightly packed suitcase. Roll everything and you will truly thank me for changing your life. :)

In any laid back island environment, heels are usually not necessary. Just because you have on flat sandals does not mean you aren't still a sexy newlywed! If you must, bring one go-to pair of heels. Otherwise, limit your shoes because they weigh the most and take up the most room. A great Grecian pair of sandals will hit your style quotient just fine for both day and night.

So remember, stress is a mindset and packing for your first vacation with your new husband does not have to be. If anything, pack a bikini, sundress, sandals, sunglasses and tons of accessories to change it all up and you will be fine.  Just go and be in love and don't worry, you will inevitably look fabulous.

Great post Amy! Thank you! I’m looking forward to more!

@LatteLove, where in Italy are you headed? I’m sure Amy has some great pointers, but I’d be happy to chip in with ideas if you’d like (I live in Italy). :-)

If I could pick your brain for a moment…

I will be in Rome in September and I would like to shop/look for a wedding dress but not an ACTUAL wedding dress. Do you have suggestions for designers that would have beautiful white/ivory gowns (floor length) that could be bought off the rack? I am a street size 4.

Thank you so much!

Anything you pack for any vacation should be foundation pieces with lots of accessories! This way you can easily mix and match, not pack the kitchen sink and change up your look. Packing by outfit is the best way to see how each piece can work more than once. Lay each outfit together on the bed and then you will be able to eliminate what you will truly not need. Keep the lighter, easy to pack items that serve as neutral base pieces. LOTS of accessories!!!!

As for a size 4 off the rack, I always suggest actually going to a higher end department store and looking at cream and white dresses. Depending on what you are looking for, they can certainly serve as a beautiful wedding dress without the price tag!!!
