Flush Designs, Pasadena Vendor: Invitations, Event & Floral Design, Photography Website: Flush Designs About Me: Flush Designs is run and owned by me, Courtney C. Keefe de Jauregui. It is all encompassing, from the custom & handmade invitations seen at my website, to full exploration in event styling and design, to flower arranging, to playing sidekick and second shooter to my husband's wedding photography. I am working on becoming a wedding "One stop shop". :) I am a graduate in fine art painting, but a self taught graphic designer. As I still needed to get my hands dirty, I started taking letterpress classes, thus becoming my new love. When I am not busy working (usually still in my pajamas) and telling myself to remember to buy a new chair (this one hurts), I am singing to my 3 cats and enjoying a cold pint with my husband at our favorite local Irish pub. Maybe it's in the reverse order. :)
About Courtney @ Flush Designs

Assembling the invitations can be the biggest challenge for a wedding couple. And my invitation designs are always a pain in the booty as I love suggesting fun elements like tea dying the paper to give it a vintage look, or stitching to add some fun texture. A lot of my brides fall head over heels in love with the ideas, but it is not in their budget to have me do all the assembly, and/or sometimes they feel that it would be too overwhelming to do it themselves. So for those couples that live in the greater Los Angeles area, I will offer a day of assembling where they can come over (with beer of course :) ) and I will do the assembly with them. We just turn it into an assembling party.

This past friday Brett and Bowen came over so we could do the final touches on their invitations.  This included a little gluing of the backs to the invite and stitching all around the invite. Bowen brought her own sewing machine so we could both sew together. While we were sewing, her fiance Brett attached the little sealing stickers to their rsvps and cut all the twine for tying.. The rsvp is a fold over card with the address on the front, the response space on the back and on the inside is a place where the couple has asked all their guests to write down their favorite recipes. Really fun! The invitation is a 2 color letterpress – I will take pictures of the completed suite a bit later…

We’re also photographing their wedding and I’m doing the bouquets and boutonnieres for them — we have all now become great friends. We had a great time with a little pizza and beer and hopefully it gave them that fantastic feeling of completion! Although they still had to take them home and tie a little twine around them, stuff, lick, stamp and send but the major assembling was finished and nothing was sacrificed, as all the fun design ideas were accomplished with no stress or budget overload. Perfect.

I had my husband pick up the camera and document our little venture.

You are the coolest! I’d like to come over and sew with you. I’ll bring beer of course!

I don’t have much experience with a sewing machine. When you sew each side, what do you do with the thread that hangs over the edge of the invitation? Thanks!

These invitations are sweet!

@Ashcat, I’ve shared the same curiosity being a non-sewer myself. :)

When stitching for the invites i like to do 4 straight stitches that will cross in the corners with no back stitch. then I just tie off the threads into little knots (8 total) then cut the extra thread.

How to Get Six Pack Fast

If you want to hear a reader’s feedback :) , I rate this article for four from five. Decent info, but I have to go to that damn yahoo to find the missed pieces. Thank you, anyway!

Hi Courtney! I’m writing b/c I tried to do a little sewing on my sister’s bridal shower invites and I FAILED. The thread kept bunching up and tangling. What did I do wrong? What settings should I have used?

@kristin brancaleone: Oh, sounds like the machine is not threaded correctly. Try re- threading and the bobbin thread might be loose? It depends on the machine but I just use the medium straight stitch.

The weird thing is it sewed perfectly well onto fabric, but when I switched the fabric for cardstock, it didn’t work… any ideas? I should probably google it!

@kristin brancaleone: in that case try holding both of the thread pieces back as you start to sew. This should keep them in place so it won’t catch and tangle. If this doesn’t work, yes maybe google…. :)
