I thought I’d share some details behind the Modern Bride photoshoot!
Remember how I did redid my workspace back in January? It was this photoshoot that was the impetus! When they said they wanted to shoot in the apartment that I just moved into, I knew I had to get cracking. Kim of Inspired Goodness (aka SIL Cupcake) did a fabulous job revamping my workspace!
I had nothing to wear, so I called my friend and stylist Amy Salinger to help me. A couple of days before the shoot, she came over with a bunch of borrowed dresses from edressme…
And over $30k worth of jewelry from Kara Ross! Some of the pieces below are also from Amy’s personal collection.
I only ended up wearing a pearl ring in the shoot (you can see it in the lower right corner), but Kara had some stunning pieces!
All these shoes are from DSW. Who would have thought?!
Then came the fun part — putting together the outfits with jewelry, shoes, and belts. This has got to be one of the most fun things I’ve ever done! I have to admit that I felt like a princess for a day. 
These were the 6 options Amy came up with — she is so talented and really knows how to pull looks together with the perfect accessories. I actually let the photographer decide on the dress the day of the shoot, and she chose the purple dress on the left from Black Halo (with my own white camisole).
Which look is your favorite? Amy’s was the black and white dress with the yellow shoes.
On the day of the shoot, Ai Sakai arrived early in the morning to do my hair and makeup. I took this at the end of the day after the shoot, but you get the idea.
A messenger delivered all this camera equipment…
And we shot all day! We took half the shots at my desk, and the other half with me sitting on my sofa working on my laptop. You can see that Smokey the cat really wanted to get in the sofa shots.
It was fascinating to see how much goes into getting that one perfect shot that makes it into the magazine. Copious champagne made the shoot a lot easier for me, because I do not like posing for pictures. It’s hard to believe that I smiled and posed for 4 straight hours!
It was a once in a lifetime experience, and I have to say it was a total blast. I feel so very honored to be named a Modern Bride Trendsetter, and I can’t wait for the awards dinner in 2 weeks!

The purple dress photographed really well and looks great on you. It’s also nicely enhanced by the colors in your work space so I can totally see why the photographer chose that outfit. However! My absolute favorite on you is that solid white dress (but maybe with the yellow shoes from the B&W dress instead of the beige). It’s so flattering and classic on you! Can you tell me who designed it?
Ah ah! I remember you posting that picture of you with your hair and makeup done up on Weddingbee…that’s why! So fun and I love the dress they ended up choosing.
I just love all the details of this shoot. The purple dress photographs so well, and the sitting position flared out the skirt and made your waist look uber small. So flattering!!!
The final product turned out great - you look amazing! Photoshoots are always tiring both ooooh so worth it! Congrats

You look fantabulous! I totally agree with swt, the white dress is EXTREMELY flattering on you plus it’s an ultra-versatile dress. Pair it with a suit jacket and it’s professional and or without for a casual, chic look. Now I have to go buy the magazine!
Oh! I remember all this stuff. Every post came out of nowhere and I remember thinking “why is she talking about this, is not wedding related, who cares!” I see how it all fits now. Congrats.

I love the black and white dress with the yellow shoes! But I understand why the photographer chose the purple dress. The color pops. It’s a perfect foreground to your light-colored office. The final photo turned out awesome.
