About Megan @ Princess Lasertron

Today, I'm walking in a fashion show in Sioux City, Iowa. I haven't seen the dress I'm modeling yet, but it was made by Joi Mahon of Dress Forms Design (when I get mega-rich I'm going to have her make all of my clothes) and I hear it is red and blue.

I was putting together my survival kit (makeup, powder, hairpins, hairspray, fashion tape, baby wipes, makeup remover, convertible bra, etc), and I made an impulse decision (typical) that I didn't want my brushes rattling around in the makeup kit where I'd never be able to find them.

So what's a girl to do? Make a quick five-minute brush roll.

Easiest craft ever. I'm sure you've seen it before if not made it.

1. You need two pieces of felt. They don't have to be a certain size-just biggish. I just used two of the standard 9×12 inch pieces.

2. Cut one of the pieces length-wise about in half. I made mine four inches.

3. Line up the bottom edges of the two pieces of felt and pin them together.

4. Sew around the edge where the two pieces meet, backstitching at the beginning and end to keep the thread from unraveling. It might be a bit difficult for you to see the thread in this picture -its lavender.

5. Sew straight lines down the felt "pocket" you have created, backstitching at the beginning and end of each stitch -you know what I'm talking about because this is where the brushes will go. You can eyeball it. I did.

I also left some space open on one side to hold funny-shaped things like hair elastics, bobby pins and round makeup sponges.

6. Get some cord or string or ribbon or lace or something. Cut a length of that about 18'' and sew the middle of it to the center of the back side of the brush roll. This is what you'll use to hold it close when you roll it up.

Voila. Put crayons or paintbrushes or colored pencils or makeup brushes or eyeliner or Twizzlers or whatever inside of it. Easy peasy.

Several of my bouquets will also be going down the runway, including a few brand new ones, so that's exciting. Here's a peek -I'll talk more about these later!

Love you brush roll — so cute! I wish I were a sewer…but maybe that’s something I can get into after the wedding. :-)

Um, and you’re walking in a fashion show? How fab is that?! Will you share pictures afterwards? Have a blast!

I’ve always wondered what those were called! I really need to pick up sewing as a hobby so I can make cool little projects like that. :)

Best idea! Yay for using the spare fabric sitting in the bottom of the closet and not spending $20 on one :)
