Introducing Amy Salinger

May 12th, 2009 @ 6:12 pm by Amy Salinger

You’ve heard me talk enough about stylist Amy Salinger, she’s written guest posts for us, and she became friends with Laura Nadeau through Weddingbee PRO.  We thought it was about time to make her an official PRO!  So if you have any wedding fashion questions at all, Amy is your gal! Please help me in extending her a warm hive welcome!

~~~
Fashion mavens I am here to hopefully save your fashion day as the newest addition to Weddingbee PRO. From everyday style to wedding day style, I have seen and done it all.  Having worked or appeared on What Not to Wear, Oprah and The Today Show, I know how looking amazing equals feeling amazing. Fashion is so much more than the clothes you choose to put on your back, but that is certainly a good place to start and I am your girl!
Having worked in the industry for around seven years, I have dressed both men and women, ages sixteen through seventy five, sizes 0 through 20….  This knowledge of what looks best on every sex, age and size is what I will deliver to you as a Weddingbee PRO. From the trends to the classics, every person can show off their own flare and personal style just by knowing what works best on them. So now, armed with your very own fashion stylist, you too can rock the red carpet, wedding carpet or shag carpet. Whatever carpet you walk on, you will be sure to look the best! :)
I’m not sure how I feel about the see-through top… hmm. Haha.
Oh! And I have a question. I’m trying to figure out the kind of dress that best suits me, I think scoop neck, but I’m not sure. I want a simple dress, but my measurements are off. My bust is 38″ (I’m a 34dd and I do not recommend it!) my waist is 27″ and my hips are 38″, an hourglass I suppose, but I don’t want my cleavage to be overbearing. Whatcha think?
Thanks!!
Hello everybody! I am so happy to be here!!! Please give me every and any question you may have about fashion because I would be happy to answer them:)
Honeymyheart: Pick a metallic for the shoe, either silver, bronze or gold. Depending on the style of your wedding, I would choose pearl or diamond (rhinestone) earrings and simple bracelet.
Msashleymarie: A ’50s style halter dress would be best on you. Think thicker strap with a slight sweatheart neckline. Make sure the bodice is fitted and possibly boned. It needs to be structured. If a halter is too revealing for you, I would choose a cap sleeve.
Hope that helps ladies!
Welcome! I sure need fashion advice, so I look forward to reading all your posts!
My question is, where are good places to shop if you are shorter (like 5 feet tall!) and what kind of apparel would you recommend for the summer to ensure us shorties don’t look even shorter?
I have a question- I plan on ordering accessories for my rehearsal dinner dress from bag, borrow, or steal. Have you used them before? (And do you want to help me accessorize??)
Hi Amy -
So excited about you being here. I am in the beginning stages of dress shopping. I am approaching 30 and really want the vibe of the wedding to be guest focused and just an in general awesome time - think cocktails and appetizers with your best friends….That said I want a dress that is me and is easy to dance, hug, go to the bathroom etc. Is something like this http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=142344&CategoryID=15002&PartnerID=SHP&cm_mmc=PMD-_-Froogle-_-Product_Terms-_-Diane_von_Furstenberg_Women%27s_Chevron_Scarf_Gown&utm_source=GoogleProduct&utm_medium=organic
but in more white less navy appropriate?
Welcome Amy!! I love all the things you have done for Mrs Bee!! I would love some advice/guidance from you! I am getting married in January in Boston and would love to take some* photos outdoor. Personally, I am not a shawl, shrug, wrap, fur type of girl — I would really love a nice white coat to wear in any outdoor photos. I’m having a hard time figuring out what to look for and where to look for it — a nice white pea coat? a cropped jacket? a long jacket that is more formal and goes with my dress? What would you advise?
*If it’s a blizzard we might forgo the outdoor photos, otherwise we are determined to get out and play in the snow, Ugg boots under my dress and all :)
(Sorry if this is a repeat I wrote this over on regular Weddingbee but it seems to have disappeared.)
@bisaZZa: First off, I LOVE this dress. Absolutely beautiful. Now, for some answers! I even have a hair-do for you:) I would do a loose, romantic low bun… slightly waved/curled. I would do a comb with a rhinestone and pearl embellishment over the bun. Remember, low! You can add a veil if you like of a very, very thin netting material. It would be lovely with an antique looking lace around the edges, nothing to crazy to overpower the dress. Think dainty. It should be longer, but certainly not floor length…. Hope that helps!
@eugy: Hands down my favorite consignment/sample/vintage store is Cadillac’s Castle on 9th between 1st and A. I always cry with happiness when I walk through the door:)
@Lillindy: Short is fabulous! You can wear any size heel you desire:) I would go to Ann Taylor loft or Banana Republic for pretty good petite departments. Loehmans is great for designer discount and Sak’s has a fabulous, yet more expensive, selection. As for items, think shorts. Lots of cuffed shorts. Ankle pants are also fabulous. Just stay away from anything cut below the knee or mid-calf, skirt or pants!
@Miss Peep Toe: First answer is that I would be happy to help you accessorize! You can contact me through my site…. And, no, I have never used bag, borrow or steal. I kind of like owning things:) Borrowing is why I have friends! I would completely suggest searching for fun, timeless pieces that will last beyond your rehearsal dinner. That way you will remember how much fun that night was and have new accessories for long after that night!
@Jli: Are you planning on having it custom made? If so, I say yes, it is fabulous! Just have them add more of a jeweled neckline. It is a great way to have the jewelry be a part of your dress! I would also have the inner middle material coming out be slightly different than the material of the rest of the dress… Just a thought!
@HumarockBride: I love this question, it is such a good one! And I think I have a good answer for you, plus a visual:) Remember Kate Hudson’s wedding to Chris Robinson? (Think about the dress, not the failed part!:) Well if not, here it is! http://teamsugar.com/files/images/wedd.jpg Her jacket is fabulous and perfect for your wedding as well. It is cropped and sophisticated with a fur trim. If fur isn’t your thing, than nix it. Make sure it is cropped either way, anything past your waist with overwhelm you and throw off the proportions of the dress.
Welcome Amy! I have a shoe question. My dress is very classic - white satin, portrait neclkine, long train, lace trim, full skirt, beading and boning. I need about a 3 inch heel in order to not trip on the dress (the lace trim makes shortening it a disaster and I like the extra height from the shoe). What trype of shoe would you recommend?
I was hoping for a navy satin peep toe but I worry it may be too much of a color contrast, I don’t want closed toes or parent leather but am open to all sorts of suggestions and can’t wait to hear what you think.
P.S. I am also thinking considering a 6 hoop undergarmet a la Mrs. Shortcake, do you think that would be too much with a chapel train?
Hi Amy!
I’m in the midst of a dress debacle. I’ll be 24 when we get married next May and while I picture myself in something sophisticated and chic (like this one I just ordered.. http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~96055/96055.jsp), when I went to a few stores I always had the major omg moments in tulle ballgowns.
Now my wedding will only have 40-50 guests, so I know a ballgown would look kind of odd. I’ve been rationalizing the J Crew dress with thoughts of accessories: dramatic headpiece, great shoes, etc, but there’s still that part of me that wants a great tulle mess. What to do?
