About nancyliuchin

Hi Nancy,

I'm thinking of doing my own flowers (with my mom & family's help). Can you tell me what flowers are available in late October? My wedding will be in West Palm Beach, Florida. We'll be getting our flowers from Miami. If you cannot help me with this question, can you point me to someone who can?

Lisa L.

This is another wonderful question from a reader.

Because of the many requests for flower availability by month, I will continue to highlight the flowers I see at the market as we get closer to each month. However, this really doesn't help Lisa, an October bride or a future December bride, because she will have to wait so many months.

So, I decided it's time for me to share one of my favorite online resources -Sierra Flower Finder. This online guide of available flowers is useful for wedding planners, floral designers, as well as DIY brides. Though it doesn't have every flower available or locally grown products, it does share much useful information. You can search for flowers, find out about wholesale resources and my favorite resource in the “Floral Bulletin” section is the “In Season” comments. I also often use it to order specific flowers like “Vendela” roses or “Alexandra Fleming” peonies.

Reader Lisa L., try using this online resource which has many articles that tell you how to treat each flower and when it's in season.

Good luck!

P.S. -As an almost 40-year-old woman, I realize that if I don’t keep up with social networking and technology I will never be able to understand my clients, who are our first priority.  So, I’m now on Twitter -Nancyliuchin. I look forward to our new experiences!

Thanks for the resource, and I can’t believe you’re “almost forty” - no way, no how!

Hi Miss D’orsay…I counted 20 gray hairs today….I feel older but NEVER old. Hard to believe that I was technically born in the 60’s….Don’t worry…Hope this helps!

Question: I’m planning on purchasing flowers online for our centerpieces since we are just lining simple bud vases down rectangular tables. Do you have any recommendations for online sellers? Any words of wisdom when ordering online?

Thank you for sharing! I have been saving pictures of flowers I liked but didn’t know if they would be in season or not. Now, I can be sure the flowers I choose are in season and won’t cost me a fortune to have in my bouquet. =)

Hi Miss Gloss…

I have to be honest, I don’t use online sellers. I’m sure there are many but I go to my local floral market. Boy, I’m spoiled. I use to work with a broker from Miami who was just fabulous. He is no longer in the business.
If you are a floral designer, you can order your flowers from my #1 resource, Torchio Nursery.
