Kathy’s Flowers

May 28th, 2009 @ 5:59 pm by Megan @ Princess Lasertron

Kathy, one of my Irish brides, is getting married on June 2 and I have had so much fun working with her since last fall. She will wear a very pretty, casual, summery 1950s-style ivory tea-length dress with white polka dots and a dark plum petticoat! I can't wait to see pictures of that confection of a gown.

Check out the little butterflies in her bouquet!

Jessie Blum @ Eclectic Unions's Picture
Jessie Blum, New Jersey Vendor: Officiant Website: Eclectic Unions About Me: I began writing & officiating wedding ceremonies in 2008, and love every single moment of it. It all started when my best friend asked me to officiate her Jewish/Lutheran/Pagan (but completely non-religious!) wedding - since then, I've found a love and passion for creating original wedding ceremonies that truly reflect the couples being married. Wedding ceremonies should be all about the bride & groom's love, relationship, and commitment, and I do my best to make sure everything is just perfect! I live in Northern New Jersey with my fiance and our two kitties, and, when I'm not meeting with my awesome couples or writing wedding ceremonies, I love to knit, obsessively check my email, and plan my own wedding (Oct 2010!).

Even though you're reading my posts, do you still have questions about what exactly a celebrant is?

The fabulous Celebrant Foundation, where I was trained, put together this promotional video, to showcase everything they offer and encourage others to “Love the art of life – become a celebrant!”

If you're not interesting in diving in, head first, to the world of ceremony and celebrants, it's still a fabulous resource to learn more about what a celebrant really is!

Take a look!

Melody Brandon, Long Beach, CA Vendor: Baker Website: Sweet and Saucy Shop About Me: Sweet & Saucy Shop is a dessert studio that specializes in cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, as well as many other goodies that taste as good as they look. Our new bakery storefront will be up and running within the next two months!
About Melody @ Sweet and Saucy Shop

Well, looking at some of my recent posts I realized that I haven't posted a really good recipe lately, so I thought I would pass this one your way…since we all need to pack on a couple more pounds before summer…right?!? ;) Well, even if packing on a couple pounds doesn't sound appetizing to you, once you see these cupcakes you won't care what the results are…you'll just want to eat one…or two or three!

These photos are from a recent class I taught at Prep Kitchen Essentials in Seal Beach, CA. The class was of course all about cupcakes, and this time we focused on really decadent, yummy cupcakes and not so much on the decorating aspect of it. Here was the menu…

  • Hummingbird Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting
  • Samoas Cupcakes (Courtesy of Chockylit)
  • Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Filling & Chocolate Ganache Frosting

I would have to say that the Samoas cupcakes were the biggest winner of the day. Everyone in the class agreed that they were definitely worth the extra effort and couldn't stop talking about how yummy they were. If you haven't visited Chockylit's blog, then you have to! You will get lost in the delicious looking photos and the yummy flavor concepts. Well, without further ado here are the photos and the recipe for the Samoas cupcakes!

Sure, I'm a floral designer but sometimes I'm a seamstress, other times an engineer, and sometimes a decorator. That being said, I want to encourage more floral designers to think beyond the scope of flowers. Here's my project for the week -an affordable and great DIY project- and also something exceptionally charming for floral designers to add to their portfolio.

For this floral button boutonnière, you will need:

jerryyoon's Picture
Jerry Yoon, San Francisco Vendor: Photographer Website: Jerry Yoon Photography About Me: Gone are the days of being stuck with boring wedding photography, where everyone and everything looks like the same old photographer took it. We're not here to please your mom. We want to rock your socks off with imagery that explodes off the page and makes you feel all fuzzy inside. We're inspired by who you are and not what others think you should be. Playwright, architect, nuclear scientist, tax man, dance machine, burly construction man, blog stalker. We take them all. Can't wait to jump into the pool together and make something your kindergarten teacher would be proud of!
About jerryyoon

Leslie and Khanh are great friends of ours. We were so bummed when Ingrid and I were booked for their wedding shoot this summer. So they commissioned Aubrey and Blake (the coolest associate photographers on the planet ever) to shoot their wedding and engagement session.

Aubrey and Blake did such an amazing job that I'm a bit jealous I didn't take these. I couldn't help but look at the whole session and feel like a friend that was totally not invited to the party. I'm so glad that Leslie and Khanh got such amazing pictures though, because it couldn't have happened for a more genuine and loving couple.

These are so close to film quality that I almost had to ask Aubrey if she went back to film for this shoot. The colors, lighting and feel of these images are so retro and timeless. Ok, I need to stop or else I'll blow their heads up too big and they'll fly away, literally. Can't wait to see the wedding pics and live vicariously through their lens!

Llubav's Picture
Llubav Choy Duerr, Brooklyn Vendor: Accessories Designer Website: Llubav Co. About Me: Combining my personal aesthetic of art as a visual feast, a background in textile design, and a love for fashion, I created Llubav Co. with the aim of brightening up your day. I use Hungarian wool felt, American wool, linen, filigree, and vintage embellishments to produce ring pillows, stationery and fashion accessories that are as unique, vibrant and colorful as my Latin American upbringing. I live and create in Brooklyn, and I have two beautiful guys in my life -- my husband Chris and our baby son Mikus.
About Llubav

Sorry for blogging only one posting a week for Miss Popcorn's amusement park pillow but believe me it is totally worth the wait! This part looked like it was going to be a piece of cake, but I had to play around with different shapes and sizes quite a bit. I wasn't sure how I was going to give the illusion that it gets smaller from afar or how the flags were going to look in front of the sky trolley.

Anyway, I think it works and it's always fun trying something new. The party flags were sewn with white thread and they go across the pillow. Next week, you'll be able to see the flower cluster, and then I'll be posting the final piece!!

Here's a question for you! What color ring ribbon would you like to see on this pillow: red, yellow or blue?

Laura @ Laura Hooper Calligraphy's Picture
Laura Hooper, Northridge, CA Vendor: Calligraphy Website: Laura Hooper Calligraphy About Me: I've been practicing the art of calligraphy since the age of 12 and nothing gives me more pleasure than waking up each morning knowing I get to do what I do each day. I love having the ability to infuse my own personal style into each of my bride's special day. When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading and painting; but most of the time I don't consider calligraphy to be work at all!

I was thrilled to see the photos from a recent wedding in Malibu that we did the hand-painted sand dollars for. The bride, Erin, contacted us pretty close to the event date, and I was happy to take on the small order of sand dollars for the place settings. :-)

Courtney @ Flush Designs's Picture
Flush Designs, Pasadena Vendor: Invitations, Event & Floral Design, Photography Website: Flush Designs About Me: Flush Designs is run and owned by me, Courtney C. Keefe de Jauregui. It is all encompassing, from the custom & handmade invitations seen at my website, to full exploration in event styling and design, to flower arranging, to playing sidekick and second shooter to my husband's wedding photography. I am working on becoming a wedding "One stop shop". :) I am a graduate in fine art painting, but a self taught graphic designer. As I still needed to get my hands dirty, I started taking letterpress classes, thus becoming my new love. When I am not busy working (usually still in my pajamas) and telling myself to remember to buy a new chair (this one hurts), I am singing to my 3 cats and enjoying a cold pint with my husband at our favorite local Irish pub. Maybe it's in the reverse order. :)
About Courtney @ Flush Designs

I was so happy to see Yia and Sal's wedding over at Amorology. I am a huge fan of Amorology, so having taken part in a wedding that she coordinated makes me sooo happy! I had the pleasure of designing all Yia and Sal's paper products for them. They are such an awesome couple. I realized I had never posted the pics of their invitation. Oops! ;)

I created a really simple and soft invite, with none other than my infamous swirl pattern and some fun blossoms. I also did the menus and the little kraft paper tags for the escort/ favor boxes, and let her borrow my kraft table numbers which I am so happy about, as they turned out sooo cute! Our fantastic friend, Fontaine Su of Paloma Images took their beautiful wedding pics.
