Patrick Moreau, Toronto Vendor: Cinematographer Website: Still Motion About Me: For far too long, wedding videography has been seen as a medium with debatable value and little artistic merit. I think a wedding film should be fun, quirky, romantic, and really reflect two people and their coming together. It should grab you in the first few seconds, shake you throughout, and leave you with a lingering impression. I am 1/3 of the cinematography team at StillMotion, along with Michael and Konrad. With a background in psychology and no formal training in film + video, I've been completely self taught and look to use my background to add more meaning to our films and the experience of creating them. I hope our art can inspire you like our brides inspire us.
About patrick

After watching this film a good thirty times each, we thought it would be a good time to add in some more details about Raj + Carolyn’s rather epic wedding.

We knew in flying to TN what an opportunity we had with the two cultures coming together. On Friday night we shot the rehearsal for an hour or so, and in hearing Raj’s welcome toast, the idea for the whole piece was born. On Saturday, the day started with a Catholic ceremony and then the night transitioned into the garba (which is the dancing you see before the baraat). Sunday was filled with the Hindu ceremony with Carolyn getting ready again, but this time in an entirely different way. The diversity between the two days, yet their similarities was what was so striking to us and was something we wanted to try and convery with this piece.

Filming all of these events with just the two of us was stressful to say the least ,and it certainly wouldn’t have become what it is without the extra efforts made by two very special groups. Meggie Velasco and her team went above and beyond to really help us out and allow our concept to come to life. Not only was she very helpful, her energy and pink hair always added a boost as the night went on. The team from KI3 Event Planning were absolutely instrumental in making everything run smoothly (which is quite a task with all of these events in such a short period of time), but also took the time to really offer us some help when it was needed and that made all the difference in the end. They had a team of four there for Raj + Carolyn, and it was so neat to see how they all moved like clockwork to make sure everything was where it needed to be when it needed to be there, all without being seen.

Lastly, I want to share something pretty unique. We shot Raj + Carolyn’s reaction to the SDE and thought it would be fun to share that, split-screened, with the sde so you can see just what an impact these pieces can have. We can be so removed when we view the clip on the blog - it doesn’t have the same atmosphere, energy, and intimacy that you have at a wedding, and I hope this short clip helps to bring some of that home.

wow…just wow.

i don’t know these people, but watching this film makes me feel so connected to them, and i am not going to lie - i bawled my eyes out, especially @ the end with her vows.

congratulations on a truly epic event, and i don’t know if i could have handled being there for real; i feel so moved, just sitting here in my living room watching this on my computer!

thanks for all of the wonderful words about this piece. raj and carolyn were such an awesome couple to get to know and we were so happy we could tell their story. i love how many people say how much they can really feel this piece or were moved by it. our couples truly inspire us and i think the connection we are able to form with them makes all of the difference in being able to show who they really are and what their day was about.
