Emotional. Heartfelt. Pretty. That about sums up Cathy and Mike’s great day of fun and fun lovin’. Cathy was so happy the whole day and was one of the most chill brides I’ve ever shot. Not to mention that she’s also a stunner and very silly as well. You can’t ask for more in a bride!
My jaw also dropped when they showed me the winery’s processing plant. What a perfect place to shoot. I think I ended up with one of my favorite group shots of all time.
My good friend Carmen Alvarez came with me to shoot this one and as always it’s a blast working with her. Vendor details to come soon! Here are the highlights.

When Braedon of Braedon Photography sent over these pictures from a recent wedding he shot, I was so excited I could not wait to share them with you. I mean seriously this is one of my favorite weddings that he has done! The first thing I am loving about this wedding is the location, Marvimon in Los Angeles (more on this tomorrow). The vibe is totally urban chic but the outdoor area makes it so unique!

Has everyone headed over to OnceWed today to see the stunning wedding of Jordyn and Bradley, shot by the handsome Tec Petaja? I had the pleasure of meeting Jordyn and Bradley last night while they were in town to see our friends :: plug, plug :: The Civil Wars, held at Billy Reid. So of course I had to ask Jordyn if she made the lovely combo on her shoes. Well here you go ladies; here's the secret to beautiful embellishments like these…

Jordyn bought a pair of vintage clip on earrings (for $7.50), hot-glued three guinea feathers to each piece, and voilà! Now, you can clip and position the embellishments how you'd like. Easy, removable shoe goodness! As for clip-on earrings, Etsy is a great resource for this, but so is your local Goodwill, flea market, or antique shop if you feel like putting some leg work into it. Guinea feathers are at craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.) and on-line.
Amazing, huh?
Does it seem to you that more couples are looking for personal and emotionally-rich ways to experience their wedding day? It does to me. Lately, I have noticed a lot of couples who are including more of their guests in the activities of the day. They want to acknowledge and honor these people by drawing them in as participants.
From a filmmaker’s perspective, these interactions and activities help make for a great wedding film. They get the couple and guests interacting in interesting and often touching ways.
So as some of you might remember a while back I told you about the classes that I was going to teach at MiraCosta Community College in Oceanside. Well, we are done with two out of the three modules and I thought that I would share some of my student's work with you. Most of them came with little to no knowledge of fondant, gumpaste, royal icings, etc. and just six classes later turned out stunning three tiered cakes.
Our first module was about the basics…filling, frosting, smoothing, and basic decorations. My teaching style is to show students a variety of methods and techniques for decorating, but then let them use their creative minds to come with the design. Of course I am there to help along the way, but I like them to let their inner cake artist come through. My favorite part of the modules are the last class when you see the finished cake that the student never thought they would be able to accomplish…everyone surprises themselves! So here are some photos from the first module…
Bostonians Amy and John were married last year on the very lucky 8.8.08 at the very historic Old North Church (you know, where an illuminated lantern in the window signaled the British were coming by sea and thus started the American Revolutionary War?!) with a beautiful rooftop reception at the Taj overlooking Boston's Public Garden. Rain, like so many weddings this summer it seems, prevented us from taking advantage of their gorgeous setting for portraits.
Amy's beautiful orchids.

I saw the Marbella dress on Green Wedding Shoes and loooved it. The colors are quite close to my color palette idea. I am not quite sure if I am on board for bridesmaids wearing different colored dresses. I do like dresses in the same shades/color families. I certainly like the idea of the maid of honor wearing a different dress.
My husband and I, aka Erin Hearts Court, shot a lovely wedding at Calamigos ranch. It was very simple and lovely with a sweet bicycle theme, and ended with a lovely bonfire. Here are a few of our favorites! More over at our blog.

Joanne McDonough from Joya Beauty answers some very important and popular questions brides have when thinking about makeup applications on their wedding day. Q. Is there a difference in makeup for digital photographs?
A. Lights…camera…pixels! The expression “what you see is what you get” is more accurate than ever in the world of digital photography. As the years have passed, cameras, lighting and makeup products have all become more sophisticated. Photo quality and detail is so precise that your makeup must be clean, color correct, meticulously blended, and lightweight -yet still offer the coverage needed to make your skin look natural and feel great..
Q. How do weather conditions impact my makeup?
A. Rain, heat and humidity all affect how makeup not only lasts throughout your event, but also how it needs to be applied. Cream products such as eyeliners, eye shadows, blushes, lip pencils, and lipsticks all have melting points. They will crease, run and smudge before you can say “I do”. Choose powders for eyes and cheeks as well as the new long lasting formulas for eye liners and lip products to make sure you look as fresh at the end of your reception as you did for the pre-ceremony photos.
Q. How to convey your ideas about makeup looks to your makeup specialist.
A. Here are a glossary of terms to make sure your makeup specialist gets a clear picture of what you mean by natural, dramatic, smoky, etc., use photos - good and bad etc., search the Internet to find examples of what you like and don't like.
Tracy from The Buttercream Studio just sent us this photo of a cute wedding cake she created based on our Chandelier wedding invitation by EIEIO. It reminded us that wedding invitations and stationery can be great source of inspiration for cakes - sometimes the design motifs on the invitation translate really well into 3-D and can help carry a consistent style through the details of wedding day.
