What an awesome week! I could have done two photo posts because there is so much to mention.
I received a wonderful, wonderful package from Meg Duerksen–the pillow I ordered from her Etsy shop! And all of the proceeds go to a great cause.

The pillow was a great deal and much bigger than I expected, and it’s washable! The box was a great treat for Turbo, too.
Ok. So Pia and Micah are amazing. First of all, when I met Pia our quick lunchtime meeting turned into a 2 hour lady date. I didn’t get to meet Micah until last week at their engagement session, but then again, when Pia met Micah, she met him over email. For the most part, I think of Micah as the elusive Micah. And when I finally met him I was struck by the way he made her laugh. It’s so easy and beautiful to be given the giggles by the one you love the most.
Second of all, when I met Pia, I knew it was going to seriously be a stylish affair. The shoes, the dress, the venue -everything. I was kind of having a freak out over the shoes. I got to the hotel before she was there, and I think I took 100 pictures of the shoes before she even got there. And the W in Hoboken, is one of the most photogenic hotels I’ve had the pleasure to make pictures in. And when you meet someone out of context, like I do quite often, you get a sense of a person. I knew that Pia and Micah were so very loved before I met all the lovely people who were with them on their wedding day. So glamorous, and so laid back. It was a pleasure and an honor to shoot this fabulous wedding! And a big, fat, juicy thank you to the fabulous Julia Newman for second shooting with me!
Plus! I was so excited to meet fellow PRO blogger - William Gaff of Human Story Films. When I first saw their work, I was moved to some serious tears. The way they convey the real, basic, unique and amazing love that people have for each other is no less than breathtaking. William rocks!

Meg and Dave are quite the hip couple. They are also two of my greatest friends. Let us start at the beginning in 2006. Dave needed a place to live in Providence. Rich {my fiance} had just bought a six-bedroom house and needed some housemates. Meg wanted to move to Providence so she found a six-bedroom house with five male housemates. Thus, love was born…approximately one year later. Then people moved out, people moved in…eventually I moved in and the story continues.
Wait. Where was I? Ah! Yes. The invitations. Meg and Dave wanted a modern, but natural look and wanted to incorporate Dave’s family symbol of a tree. Meg also wanted polka dots. I created a simple pattern of dotted circles for the invitation and carried that to the rsvp using a larger dotted circle around the rsvp and dotted lines for the names and replies. To pull it all together and add that natural touch, I used paper-backed wood veneer for the belly band and letterpress the family tree. Yes! Wood veneer!
Fun fact: although it is paper-backed, wood veneer will not fold cleanly. I had to first score it, gently fold it with a bone folder, and then, get this, sand them. Yes, I sat there watching my usual X-Files via Netflix and sanded all 125 belly bands so the two edges would be smooth to the touch. Have I ever mentioned I am perfectionist? ![]()

I was looking through one of my inspiration books the other day and came across Claire Cole’s work. She essentially stitches vintage papers together to create wallpaper, illustrations and accessories. It’s like a collage of vintage papers all sewn together. How amazing is that! I would just die for a panel of her wallpaper. Who knew wallpaper could be handmade!!

Cathleen and Jeff brought their black lab puppy, Jackson, to our initial meeting and I immediately knew we’d get along just fine.
Jeff proposed in a snowstorm while on a horse-drawn carriage ride in Stowe, VT. Although they live in Newburyport, MA (such an adorable town), they decided to marry in Vermont, too. They chose a gorgeous venue in East Burke (north of St. Johnsbury, not far from Canada!).
Jeff, who is in graphic design, made their wedding invitations and had them letter pressed at William Arthur. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love the variety of color.

A couple weeks ago, we made this wonderful bed of flowers for our bride, Lindsey. On top of this 6 ft x 2 ft bed of flowers, roughly 120 place cards were lined perfectly.
Here’s my ingredient list for this bed of flowers:
Hope this may inspire you! Enjoy!
You may remember the bride and groom sugar cookies I made for a dear friend’s wedding. I had an amazing time at their wedding and had the privilege of making their cake and cookies and even being a bridesmaid. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend trying to do both, but in the end it was all worth it!
I got the silhouette cookie cutters custom made to fit their profile from The Victor Trading Company. This company did an amazing job with the cutters and the end result was more than I could have asked for. The wedding theme was “Silhouettes” and my friend Karrie (the bride), who is a graphic designer, carried the theme throughout the whole wedding seamlessly. She even had the lady from Disneyland who cuts silhouettes come and cut each guest’s silhouette! Their wedding photographer, Amy Squires, from WeddingChicks was absolutely amazing!!! I highly recommend her to any bride-to-be looking for a fantastic photographer. I was also lucky enough to have a couple shots she took of my desserts and of the gorgeous bride and groom. I just can’t help sharing my joy with you all, so I hope you enjoy these photos!
The random // I love peonies. They’re such beautiful flowers. They look like cotton candy.
The random // Danielle loves fondant icing. I think she’s obsessed.
The amazing // Not only did Alisha and James have peonies at their wedding and a fondant wedding cake, but they had peonies made out of fondant! Best thing ever…
Alisha and James live in Australia - at least for now. They planned their wedding from afar and came to Canada only a week before the big day. Because we had never worked together before, I insisted that we get together of an engagement session during that week so we could get to know each other better. So on the Tuesday before the wedding, we went out.
And then the big day came. Originally, we were supposed to start out at the hotel after the ladies’ hair was done. But they were running a bit behind schedule, so we joined them at the salon instead. Boy am I glad we did! Mirrors everywhere! So Danielle and I decided to take advantage and make the morning all about reflections.

A reader asked an awesome question…

A: Before the ceremony, we had a cocktail hour with mostly swing and big band music by classic, agreeable artists like Frank Sinatra, Etta James, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, etc.
We made a playlist and just had our sound engineer run it on Windows Media Player (I know) during the wedding. We had an entrance song (I Think I Love You by the Partridge Family, a nod to my David Cassidy-obsessed mom), then had the ceremony and went right into the dancing. Here’s a short list of some of the songs I remember…
First dance: Love at First Sight by Kylie Minogue
Father/daughter: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
Mother/son: I Will Follow You by Ricky Nelson
And then to get the party started…
The Party - Justice ft. Uffie
Crazy For You - Madonna (basically tons of Madonna)
A Cause des Garcons - Yelle
Fantasy - Mariah Carey
Evil - Ladytron
Guilt is a Useless Emotion - New Order
What Them Girls Like - Ludacris
American Boy - Estelle
Toxic - Britney Spears
