Sabrina and Mark met as first year law students at Yale. Friends first, they actually fell in love as roommates a few years later in NYC and their love deepened as Mark, frighteningly, underwent two rounds of open heart surgery for an aortal aneurysm. The pair traveled to Maine during Mark’s recovery to be close to nature and reflect on their scary brush with his mortality. They describe Maine as the first place Mark felt alive again, and so they decided this should be the appropriate place for their wedding.

Sabrina has a stunning star quality about her that can light up a room. I love this giggling series.

Mimicking the knots on her wedding dress, they chose an invitation with a similar ribbon style.

Meet Mark. Healthy and strong, Mark is feeling well (following another surgery last spring!), by J.

Peeking at the ceremony site, Sabrina awaits her cue.

Oh, gosh. Mark sees Sabrina for the first time. This picture tugs at my heartstrings.
sabrina04
Their beautiful, albeit chilly, ceremony outside.

Married (by J)!

We couldn’t have ordered better evening light for portraits by the water!

The beautiful ballroom, made spectacular by Kate Parker’s flowers, and blue & green up lighting (I really recommend up lighting in ballrooms. Makes a huge difference in your photos).
sabrina08
Even tho we can’t see Sabrina’s mouth, her eyes are smiling!
sabrina09
Great detail by J during the toasts.

The pattern on their cake match the bows on the dress and wedding invitations.
sabrina011
We had fun playing with off-camera lighting during the dancing, and Mark had fun getting real low all night long (he was given a nickname by Sabrina’s family which I won’t post here!)!
sabrina012
After night fell, I loved the mood of their ceremony site.

J and I are both so enormously happy for you, Sabrina and Mark. Your wedding was a perfect combination of classic elegance and personal attention to detail. You know we’d love to have you as friends in Portland, so we’ll continue to push for your move up this way. In the meantime, however, we’ll look forward to seeing you when we visit the Big Apple! Hugs!
