I loved working with Amy and Phil on their August wedding in the UK–I love my international brides! Amy and Phil look so happy together and paid so much attention to every detail. Amy did an awesome job with the decor and even made an adorable little felt boutonniere for each of her groomsmen (and she sent me one, too!). I’ll let Amy say more about her big day in her own words…

We were married at the Ashes, a converted barn venue in the Staffordshire Moorlands, UK. It was a lovely, fun, relaxed day. We decided when we started planning our wedding that we wanted the day to be personal, and for its component parts to be meaningful, whether that be a traditional concept or not. In format and appearance, the day ended up looking really traditional, but all the details were chosen with care.

I found Princess Lasertron through Offbeat Bride and the bouquet was the catalyst for many decisions about the look of the wedding, first of which was no natural flowers. Having got engaged in Kyoto, and then inspired by the wonderfully creative and supportive brides of the Offbeat Tribe, my now husband and I embarked on a mammoth origami project, making over 500 individual flowers to decorate the reception tables, altar displays, and place cards. My parents, brother and colleague Annie all helped with folding the >3000 petals, and my aunt arrived early on the morning of the wedding to arrange and wire flowers into place. My mom’s friend made and decorated the wedding cupcakes with sugarpaste poppies. My parents were very supportive throughout, and my mom and I spent the afternoon before the wedding day baking and decorating heart shaped cookies as favours – nowhere near as calming as that sounds!

I’m quite crafty and wanted to be hands-on in making items for our wedding. So I made what I felt I could accomplish, and ordered new or bespoke items from Etsy sellers when I felt that something was beyond my skills.

Our wedding was the celebration and affirmation we had imagined, and it was wonderful to get almost everyone we love into one place for a party. During the evening Soul and Motown disco, my husband turned to me and said that it really was the best day of his life, so I reckon we got it right! But sadly no evidence exists of my husband and a male friend, alone on the dancefloor, doing the dance routine to “Love is Strange” - that’s the “How do you call your loverboy” song from Dirty Dancing…

My heartfelt congratulations to Phil and Amy! Doesn’t their wedding look like it was so fun? I wish I could have been there. ![]()
