Continuing with the "theme" of a new take on a previous design, I recently designed and printed these hydrangea wedding invitations for a lovely couple living in Ireland. I did a similar design over a year ago in sea-inspired blues and greens for a childhood friend.

I loved printing in pink and gray; it is so flirty and feminine. Many couples {my fiance and I included} go for more gender neutral colors, but sometimes an all-out floral-filled, swashed and swooped, pink-fest is necessary. I have always been under the impression that hydrangeas are a summer flower growing in the yards of cute cottages on the beaches in Maine and Cape Cod. However, autumn is when some of the most beautiful hydrangeas are in season, including antique hydrangea .
As many of you probably know, Jesi Haack is one of my favorite wedding planners to work with… her designs, personality, and professionalism make her a fabulous find in the wedding industry! I was so excited when she and I were able to work together on Jessica’s wedding! I had the pleasure of getting to know Jessica previously at events at The White Dress in Corona Del Mar. Jessica is a manager there and has had us come and sample our yummy treats for their clients on various occasions. This is a special store for me since it is where I got my fabulous wedding dress a couple years ago. So as you can tell, I was doubly excited to work on this wedding since it was for people I knew! Jesi did an amazing job with the design for the wedding and I thought I would share some words from her blog that described the event…
“When Jessica, manager of The White Dress in CDM, hired me to design and plan her wedding, I squealed at the opportunity! Besides the fact that Jess & Eric are BEAUTIFUL people, they have such a clean, classy, modern style. My favorite part was that Jess gave me FULL reign so my crazy mind was whirling! The only thing they insisted on was having a cocktail party style of event with lots of EATING, DRINKING, and DANCING! We were working with a tight budget, so it was so fun pushing through the challenge and thinking outside the box… and outside the box is my favorite place to be! My AMAZING team created 500+ paper flowers to flood this event with style and sass.”

Whitney met Courtney’s parents at the studio before we met Courtney and Brad. Typically, pre-booking meetings at the studio are informal, a casual back-and-forth conversation about plans, expectations and browsing of photographs. Courtney’s father, however, took this process very seriously and assessed this situation like he might a job interview noting our handshakes, eye contact and gauging the warmth of our personalities as to how we might fit into his daughter’s big day. We triumphantly passed, thank goodness, and Whit booked the date for Courtney and Brad’s nuptials on Maine’s southern coast.
This week’s “What I heart Now” features a mixture of things from a vampire teeth necklace to a camping wedding!! Check it out…

{1}This engagement photo by Sweet Monday Photography amongst all those street lamps is so magical!! {2}Vampire teeth necklace!? A little scary yes, but something about it is so amazing! I must have this. via etsy shop juelladesigns. {3}As soon as i saw this camping wedding over on the fabulous Once Wed I was instantly in love. They set up “Tent Town” for guests to stay the night. How fun!! {4}Whenever Amy Atlas sends over her latest creation our entire office gets excited. This latest fall inspired dessert table was no exception. {5}I am so in love with this laid back beach wedding I spotted over on the beloved Green Wedding Shoes, each guest gets a blanket to snuggle with and a beer. How great is that!? {6}This wooden ring from etsy shop stoutwoodworks is amazing!!
We shot Alan and Marianne’s post-wedding shoot a while back. I think it was actually towards the end of May. I think that part of the reason I didn’t want to post their images on the blog at first was because they were all so good (excuse the tooting of the horn), that I didn’t think I would do the shoot justice by posting 5 or 6 images.
They flew in from Vancouver with the hopes that we would go out for a shoot, photo and cinema, and they would come back home with some really nice images. We surprised them. We surprised ourselves.
The shoot was supposed to be 2, maybe 3 hours. We started shooting at 4:30 or so and went all the way to midnight. It was one of the most fun shoots we’ve ever done.
Here’s what we went into the shoot knowing:
// they’ve been together for 16 years.
// they aren’t lovey dovey. come on. they’ve been together for 16 years!
// they fly a lot to visit family, so airports are a big part of their lives.
// she loves her dress. so we’re doing part of the shoot in her real dress to get some really different pictures, and the rest in a secondary dress that she cares less about.
// she’s hoping it doesn’t rain. we’re REALLY hoping it does.
Here’s what we came up with.

This week’s Inspired Ink post evolved out of a simple Twitter conversation that transpired last week. Annemarie from Perfect Bound “tweeted” this colorful headboard project courtesy of Design Sponge.
and then me….
How to make sure your engagement pictures come out looking like you had fun.
1. Come extremely nervous to your shoot.
2. Tell your photographer that you are awkward in front of cameras.
3. Make sure you hire a funny photographer.
So I don’t consider myself being that funny. Ingrid, tells me that I’m not that funny. I know I’m not that funny. I don’t crack jokes or have special one liners that I use to make couples laugh. I think I just tend to make brutally honest observations that my couples and I can all laugh about. When I can be real and honest about the silliness of trying to make my couples look all romantic in front of a camera, then the fun begins. I hope that helps every camera shy person feel excited about their next photoshoot!
We’ve been loving the recent trend of festive yellow and gray weddings and the opportunity to print these gorgeous letterpress wedding invitations in our Dewdrop design only served to solidify our love for this hot color palette. This customization uses a fun square shape, bright champagne and pewter inks, and even features a cute square reply card that directs guests toward the couple’s website for online replies. We love how personal and fun this invitation suite is and how it reinvents one of our favorite designs from our 2009 collection. Stay tuned for more great Dewdrop letterpress wedding invitation customizations this week!
Whew! Has it really been a week since we blogged last?! We’ve got to step up our game and we intend to BRING IT, especially since we’ve been shooting like mad! Let us start things off with this handsome couple named Danah + Ahmad. So glad that they hired us to capture their engagement session and wedding day. We shot their engagement session literally three days before they tied the knot, so stay tuned because their wedding is next on the list. Danah + Ahmad make a sweet couple and when I say sweet, I really mean it, our experience with them has been nothing but that! So excited to feature them here on the blog:
I was a theatre major in college – and when I would stage manage, I was often the voice that told you to turn off your cell phones and pagers and unwrap your candy before the performance would begin.

(And, yes, both of the photos in this post were taken at recent weddings I officiated… before the ceremony!)
Now, I’m often the voice that asks guests to turn off their cell phone and other noisy electronics prior to the wedding ceremony. I like to say, “Other noisy electronics” in addition to cell phones because many cameras make sound now, too, and you never know who’s going to bring a portable gaming system and just play Mario Kart quietly through the ceremony.
