Initial Pillow

November 18th, 2009 @ 11:26 am by Llubav

Hi there!

I had the opportunity to work with this exquisite palette for a wedding in August.

Jessica and Khalid were married at the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria in sunny Austin, TX.

The colors were Tiffany blue, different shades of red and touches of grey. Birds were an important element, inspired and adopted from the Lenox Chirp China collection. The flowers were dahlias and roses for the bridal bouquets and carnations for the centerpieces.

The inspiration board: That is the actual building the couple got married in! It feels like it belongs in Morocco, no?

Grace and Aaron

October 26th, 2009 @ 8:31 am by Llubav

I'm so happy that I no longer have to keep this a secret. This month’s Martha Stewart Weddings Fall issue hit the stands, and in it is the wedding story of the lovely design expert Grace from Design*sponge

I love the South. And when Grace told me she was planning to have her wedding in Savannah, I flipped! I knew it would be the most charming and beautiful event. I wanted to make her a ring pillow from the day she gave me the great news about her engagement, and lucky for me, Grace wanted a ring pillow despite the fact that she wasn't planning on having a traditional ring bearer. In the end, one of the groomsmen carried the pillow, which was just one in a very long list of unique touches in an especially endearing wedding.

Here are some inspirations Grace sent me.

Fall Bouquet

October 19th, 2009 @ 4:24 pm by Llubav

Nicole and Keith were married this past August at a lake in northern MN at the bride's parents' resort Brindley Sharbor — a beautiful setting for a wedding.

The ceremony was small and informal, romantic, elegant and surrounded by nature. It took place under a homemade arbor made of old vines and branches. The flower arrangements were organic in design in dark oranges, peaches and purples with orchids, dahlias, roses, calla lilies, berries, pomegranate and curly willow — what a fabulous color palette! Bridesmaids wore dresses in aubergine and the flower girl was adorned in a mango dress with aubergine dash.

Polish Art

August 18th, 2009 @ 2:29 pm by Llubav

Hi!

Hope you are doing super. This week is off to a great start, as my Mom arrives from VA today. In addition to all her TLC and help with the lil' guy, I'm also really looking forward to her delicious Latin cooking! My Julia — she totally rocks!

So, to start off the week, I have Polish beauties for you to see. These pieces come from the Polish Art Center in Hamtramck, Michigan when my husband and I visited at the beginning of the summer. Pajak which means spider in Polish, is known as a paper chandelier and it is a dying art in Poland. The samples carried at this shop are from folk artists that are still practicing the craft. Beautiful and intricate, they are all done by hand using paper, thread and needle and raw straw, and of course lots of love and patience. I have posted in the past about the vintage paper chandelier my husband bought me last year and they only had a few left, but this time they had new and bigger inventory! I was thrilled to see all the different colors and sizes available. I want them all!!

Beach Wedding

August 4th, 2009 @ 10:31 am by Llubav

Hello there!

I have a great posting for you today. It's a wedding we attended a few weeks back in East Hampton — we love it there!

Dad, are we there yet?

Our friends Casey (a talented chef who can turn the most random ingredients into pure deliciousness) and Ryan (a sweet dude and an amazing artist) had an intimate ceremony right on Georgica Beach, and then a casual yet totally fun reception at The Laundry. There was also a BBQ potluck with a bonfire at the beach the night before the wedding — super fun!

Love at the Park

July 23rd, 2009 @ 6:26 pm by Llubav

Parks can be romantic and magical. It's a wonderful feeling being surrounded by grass, trees, flowers, birds. :-) For Elizabeth and James, New York City parks play a very important role in their lives and their relationship. Their first date was at Bryant Park and James proposed at Cunningham Park in Queens. They wanted to make sure that their pillow reflected that.

For their September wedding, they chose deep royal blue, deep cranberry red, moss and white as the color palette. The bridesmaids are wearing deep royal blue, and the cake topper is a set of white lovebirds hugging. Elizabeth's favorite flower is a peony, and James loves blueberries (included in their stationery); both elements are incorporated on the pillow.

Animal Silhouettes

July 17th, 2009 @ 12:31 pm by Llubav

I had not done silhouettes before Allison contacted me, but this is the beauty of my job — I get to try new and exciting things every time I create a pillow. :-)

Allison and Barry are having an outdoor wedding in Maine at the beginning of August. They will use dahlias from a local flower farm. There's no specific wedding color or theme; they're just letting nature set the tone. I love their organic thinking. Allison made a request for the possibility of including Bucks and Daisy (their two very special golden retrievers). After looking at photos of their lovelies, I found some great profiles to use as the silhouettes. The color palette was inspired by the save-the-date card: creamy sorbet tones of sand, flesh, peaches, butter, ivory, sage and avocado.

A Splash of Color

July 15th, 2009 @ 3:46 pm by Llubav

Hello! I apologize for having been a bit MIA lately. My little fingers have been attached to the needle, thread, and scissors. I have lots of goodies to share, and hope to post them very soon.

Here's a fun and modern ring pillow for an exciting, creative couple in Toronto — my first international order! Amanda sent me photos of the locations for the ceremony and the reception and some other details about the wedding. After reading Amanda's emails and seeing the photos, it was clear that they have a great admiration for art, creativity and color.

Gerbera Daisy Pillow

July 8th, 2009 @ 12:48 pm by Llubav

I really love the way this pillow turned out for Kristan and Scott. They are celebrating their marriage at the end of the month — Congratulations!!

The colors are chocolate brown, lime green, ivory, and fuchsia as the accent color. The flowers are hydrangeas, dahlias, gerbera daisies, bouvardia, and mini calla lilies. Kristan wanted something simple, pretty and 3D. I think the gerbera daisy makes a great statement without being too ornate. The daisy is hot magenta and the leaves are a mix citrus of green and spicy olive for a refreshing combination.

The sewing process: There are over 50 individual petals that were hand cut and sewn around the chocolate center pompom.

Pop-Up Wedding Winners

July 2nd, 2009 @ 9:37 am by Llubav

Leah and Michael were the lucky winners of the Brooklyn Pop-up Chapel contest. They were married last Thursday June 24th at the Pop-Up Chapel that Martha Stewart Weddings put together. Leah wrote their touching story -they totally deserved to win.

I was invited to participate in this wonderful event by creating a ring pillow for the winning couple. I love the sweet, candy-like decor and all the other great details the Martha Stewart Wedding Team put together for the event.
