All the rain last week in NYC, made me feel a little down. Rain can be romantic sometimes, so I’m trying to look on the bright side and be inspired. Thankfully, I didn’t have to look too far for some inspirational eye candy. I flipped through my binders and looked around our nest to find things that tickled me and my nostalgia.
These are some things I had put away and forgotten about — feathers, ribbons and old postcards. I hope you find them as inspiring and lovely as I do.

It’s been a while since I last posted on my work. I have been a busy bee these days. I have orders coming in and pillows going out. My magic corner has turned into a little factory, and I may have to put my baby son to work soon. 
There are some lovely and exciting wedding themes I have the pleasure to design for, and I look forward to sharing the pillows and their stories with you soon!
So, I have some photos of the beginning stages of Miss Popcorn’s vintage amusement park pillow!
We took a little trip to the South back in April for our friends, Grace and Aaron’s, wedding. And even though I can’t share pictures of the wedding, because it will be featured in the next Martha Stewart’s Weddings magazine (totally worth the wait!), I can share one neat idea they did for their out-of-town guests.
The wedding took place in Savannah — a place with lots of beauty and interesting dark history. Our friends booked a trolley tour for all of us out-of-town guests to enjoy the morning before the wedding. My hubby and I usually prefer exploring new places by asking the locals and doing a lot of walking, but this tour was a fantastic gift that we will never forget. Not only were we able to see the majority of the historic town squares — which surely would have resulted in many blisters and maybe even an argument or two had we tried on to do it by foot — but we learned so much more about Savannah’s history from our very funny trolley driver/guide. What a fun way to have your guests mingle before they see each other on the dance floor!

Having a wedding inspiration book was so helpful and visually fun for me. It did get a little heavy to carry around and take back and forth from the city to Virginia where we had our wedding, but I couldn’t have done the wedding without it. I took notes and taped and glued all kinds of stuff and inspiration in it. I also used it to keep track of the gifts sent to us and for the thank you note checklist. It even worked as our guest book!
We got a beautiful guest book from Uncle Pat and Aunt Claudia and took it to Virginia, but it accidentally was left behind the day of the wedding. 
So, my close friend Lyn took my inspiration book and had everyone sign it. Later, I was told by friends and family how much they enjoyed flipping through the pages and seeing how our wedding came together — thank you Lyn!!
I went to see the Macy’s Flower Show a couple of weeks ago. I love their window displays! All the windows along 34th Street between Broadway and 7th Ave, had flowers made out of paper by an incredibly talented lady, Eloise Corr Danch (who is also a FIT grad). This young lady made hundreds of flowers in different colors and shapes and gave each window its own uniqueness. I’m a sucker for all things handmade, and these flowers were truly beautiful. I can’t imagine all the work that went into them.
The show was pretty neat. They had different gardens with flowers coming from all over — a Mexican garden, Hawaiian garden, Florida garden, etc. All of them were very pretty.
So, all the votes are in for the amusement park theme ring pillow, and #1 is clearly the winner! This was also Miss Popcorn’s choice when I sent her the sketches. She got back to me with an answer right away. I showed it to my husband and mother-in-law Barbara, and they also picked #1. My husband actually helped me narrow it down to the two drawings from a group I had. It’s great to have a second set of eyes at home other than my own when doing creative work. I can get too critical, and/or I start going in circles -he is a huge help.
So, usually after the future bride and I exchange some thoughts and I look over details, I start sketching. This is the fun part; where I go crazy with the marker. Then, I have to edit it down to 2 sketches to send over to the bride, so she can choose the one she likes.
Here are two pillow ideas for Miss Popcorn’s vintage amusement park wedding. I love the whole concept behind this celebration. The stationary, favors, games, decorations and the reception in the bumper car pavilion tie it all together.
Both pillows include a carousel pavilion and a ferris wheel. The carousel pavilion at Glen Echo Park is very, very beautiful, and during my research, I ran into tons of photographs that people have taken while visiting the park. The pillows will also have little party flags; this comes at the request of Miss Popcorn, who will be making pennants to decorate nearly 300 feet of ceiling surface. Unique touches like that is what makes your wedding that much more special, and your guests will treasure it.

When working on custom-made projects, I frequently get lost in design world, unable to stop sketching which sometimes even carries over to my dreams. This “problem” of mine most recently came at the hands of Pamela, who provided me with an entire world of inspiration -her very own wedding blog! Among many other things, her postings include: save-the-date cards, her wedding cake and the shoes she’ll be wearing. What a clever, great thing wedding blogging is. I wish I had done something like this for my own wedding. It’s a great way to keep things organized, especially for the husband and the wedding party, and it’s so much fun at the same time!
Pamela and Conrad’s wedding is a mix of vintage and elegance. They are to be wed in Chesapeake, VA, and their theme revolves around birds. The key elements behind the design include: an ivory bird cage to be used at the reception, roses in the neutral colors of cream, vanilla, ivory, white and taupe to go with the vintage look; little white bird cage boxes with goodies inside as party favors; and feathers and pearls. These are only a few of the details, but there are many more on her blog. 1. The center pieces will be in plastic popcorn containers with yellow carnations to resemble popcorn -clever!
2. Retro wrapper Cracker Jacks or Hershey bars as party favors.
3. Her younger brother loves clowns, so he’s going to dress up as a clown for the reception! And he is also the ring bearer!

Weddingbee and Llubav Co. held a contest for one lucky lady to have her very own custom made ring pillow. And the lucky winner is “Miss Popcorn”! We’ve had some time to visit via email about her wedding, and she’s as excited as I am to get this project going. Miss Popcorn is kind enough to share her wedding site so we can all learn a little more about her and what she is planning for her big day.
I read the whole thing Miss and Mr. Popcorn are so cute! They are having their wedding in a vintage amusement park (love it!). So you know they’re a fun, light-hearted, adventurous couple, and their wedding is sure to be fantastic.
