Leigh Miller, Coronado, CA Vendor: Photographer Website: Leigh Miller Photography About Me: People often ask me how I got my start in wedding photography. The truth is i fell into it. Almost by accident. But after my first wedding I was sold. I moved full force ahead. And within a year I went full-time leaving behind my life as a therapist and social worker. And the rest, as they say, is history. In November I celebrated my 3rd year of being a full-time photographer! Today, I feel so blessed to get to do something I love and to work with amazing couples all over the country and world! I have traveled to the Bahamas, Jamaica, all over Mexico and all the way to England to shoot weddings. I live in southern California with my husband, two sons, two really loud birds and a short, fat yellow lab named Mrs. Jones. All, at various times, make an appearance on my blog.
About leighmiller

I heart Rebecca and Eric. I am constantly amazed at the wonderful couples I get to work with and how lucky I am to have the job I have. I met Rebecca and Eric a few nights before their wedding at the resort where the wedding was in Mexico. Rebecca and I immediately hit it off. I swear if I had a sister, she would be just like Rebecca. (Both our mothers should probably count their blessings they didn't have to deal with both of us together!) I seriously felt like I'd known her for years. Isn't it amazing when that happens?

But back to the wedding! Rebecca and Eric were married at the El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya. Rebecca looked gorgeous and wore the most fabulous Nicole Miller wedding gown and Eric was a trooper despite having one of the worst sunburns I've ever seen in my life! So without further delay, cause I know they've been patiently waiting, here are a few pics from the wedding day and the day after in and around Riviera Maya and the Rosewood Mayakoba where I hope to shoot a wedding or at least spend a relaxing weekend soon! Congrats guys! Can't wait to hear about Africa and Rebecca can't wait to catch up in NYC this fall.

About leighmiller

As promised, I'm getting caught up on the blog and some fabulous weddings that took place at the end of last year. I think this actually works out very well as I don't have a wedding until March and it's nice to sprinkle these in between all the recent enagement sessions. Melysa and Michael are another one of my great San Francisco couples who were referred to me by the awesome Morgan and Scott. Their wedding was at the beautiful Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. Wendy Wuitschick of Sorelle Weddings and Events was the event planner and everything was lovely and elegant in deep reds. Loved it! And there always seems to be something so lively and real about the Jewish weddings I photograph. So much joy. I love all the tradition but yet I'm not really a traditional person. And the dancing is always one of my favorite parts of the wedding. Enjoy!

Emily and Matt

February 12th, 2009 @ 12:33 pm by Leigh @ Leigh Miller Photographer

Last week I met Emily and Matt up in PB for an engagement shoot. I asked Emily if she ever did any modeling; she was so funny and kind of shy, but said no. I think she should. She has such a great look. Matt you're pretty sweet too! See you both soon.

and a great big thank you to The Knot. Lindsay and Hank's Cabo San Lucas wedding is featured in the Spring/Summer edition of The Knot national magazine! This is pretty exciting news as this issue will be sold all over the country and on bookstore shelves through July. Pick one up if you have a chance! :)

Erin Cole Salon

February 6th, 2009 @ 11:34 am by Leigh @ Leigh Miller Photographer

A few weeks ago I got a call from my good friend (and former bride) Erin Cole about shooting some salon shots for her. I was thrilled. Erin is always a blast to work with and I just heart her and her work so much! Her jewelry line is out of this world. I was also excited about seeing some of the shots I did for her ad campaign last year blown up and hanging on the walls.

So we settled on a date when the amazing Judd Waddell would be having his trunk show in the salon. I personally had never been to a trunk show and was excited to see what exactly went on. What a treat for the brides who had appointments that day! Can you imagine having the designer of your gown in the store while you're trying it on and HE is going to fit you? For one bride he even combined two designs right there on the spot, and brides who purchased one of Judd's gowns that day received a sketch of their gown autographed by Judd. I think that is pretty wonderful. It is also funny because my knowledge of designers in the fashion industry is pretty much limited to Project Runway, with all the drama and egos. Judd is so down to earth, such a nice guy. As an artist it was fun for me to watch his reaction as the gals put on his gowns. You could tell he was genuinely interested in every bride that came through that door. So between Judd and the amazing gals at Erin Cole, it was a real treat for everyone. I think you can tell from the photos and the note from a past client, Erin and her staff are all about making your wedding gown experience exceptional on all levels. It was all I could do to not just rip off my clothes and start trying on gowns too - haha! So here are some photos from the day. This Friday and Saturday one of the designers from Rivini will be at Erin Cole and you can check out Judd's website to see where he will be for the rest of the year. Have a great day everyone!

I Love NYC!!!

January 29th, 2009 @ 4:18 pm by Leigh @ Leigh Miller Photographer

Love it! Did I mention I love NYC? I usually get to shoot at least one wedding a year in New York and am beyond giddy with anticipation between the time I book it and the time I actually get to shoot it. I always schedule a few other shoots for my trip, just to try and get as much in as I can! 2 trips ago I got to photograph Cara and Wes' engagement. They were planning a wedding in Italy (and already had a photographer, sigh!) but wanted NYC engagement photos to use as decor at their wedding. We had a blast and ran all around the West Village and shot up and down the streets of the sesame street houses. Here are a few photos from the day. I can’t wait to go back this fall!

Mindy & Tim

January 28th, 2009 @ 3:00 pm by Leigh @ Leigh Miller Photographer

are helping me get over my fear of cats! Yes it's probably a little known fact, but I have cat issues. After this session I'm feeling much less terrified of the fanged creatures. ;) But seriously, I had a blast spending time with Mindy and Tim during their engagement session. They were a referral from another great couple, Morgan & Scott, so I knew they were going to be fun and creative. I love the way these two are together! For the session we started at their apt in LA. Just hanging around the house, playing with some cats, and painting some toenails. I loved just capturing them on a lazy morning. Then we headed out to the theatre where Tim proposed to Mindy. Hold on to your hats because this is an amazing proposal story!

Tim surprised Mindy by renting a theatre, having his and her family there, playing a movie of the two of them through the years, then ending by dropping on one knee and popping the question! WOW! So romantic. So the theatre shots are THE theatre where he popped the question. And lastly we wrapped it up with a few shots around their neighborhood. I love it when we can shoot engagement sessions in locations that are so special to the couple. So here are a few pics from the shoot, hope you enjoy. Stayed tuned in a few months for some photos of their amazing wedding that is going to take place at The Social in LA. Can't wait!

I don't even know where to start with Mary and Andy's wedding. It was such a great day! They hired me a looong time ago so there has been a lot of anticipation for me leading up to this wedding. Mary is just the sweetest gal ever! Over the past year+ she would just send me random emails that said things like - We're just so happy to have you at our wedding. I mean for no reason at all. She's such a generous and genuine person. Andy's not too shabby either. ;)

But on to the wedding day. Mary and Andy worked with Kevin Covey to create an awesome atmosphere. It was perfect. No detail left out. It was my second wedding last year with Kevin and he always exceeds my expectations. One of my favorite things about the entire wedding was the art. All the pieces hanging in the gallery on the wedding day were from Andy's grandfather. Isn't that amazing! Such a special, personal touch. My favorite was a nude hanging over the sofa (see below) and I hope one day maybe there will be a print available of that painting for purchase - hint, hint! If you'd like to see their wedding highlight video go over and check out Curtis Heyne of Living Cinema's Blog. Curtis is definitely one of my favorite videographers to work with, a blast and total professional.

Mary and Andy, thank YOU for letting me be a part of your wedding day. I know you will have years and years of happiness!

Awesome People:
Coordinator - Kevin Covey
Florals - Nisies Enchanted Florist
Venue - Seven Degrees
Cake - The Cake Studio
Videographer - Living Cinema
Coffee and Chocolate Fountain - Coffee Divas

And a great big thank you to Jen Rau for shooting with me!
