A Touch of Tinsel

June 25th, 2009 @ 9:46 am by Llubav

For those of you who know don't know about Tinsel Trading Company, you are in for a treat. It's the most incredible place where one can find exquisite vintage beads, buttons, ribbons, threads, fabric and the list goes on. A lot of my goodies come from here. I love their unique sequins, trims and fabric flowers. I set a couple of hours aside whenever I'm in the Bead District because there is always something new to check out at this jewel of a store.

Recently, I was there looking for some inspiration for a bouquet project I'm working on, and I took some shots of their vintage flower wall — it is to die for! Have you seen the recent JCrew catalog with the lady wearing a lightweight coat and a cluster of flowers on her lapel? I was told the flowers came from this shop. There are so many different ways you can use these beauties - put them on your hair, dress up a present, use them as placecards or attach them to your dress!

Brooklyn Pop-Up Pillow

June 18th, 2009 @ 9:56 am by Llubav

I was flattered when Brooklyn Bride's Vane contacted me about collaborating for an event she was doing for the Brooklyn Pop-up Wedding Series at 303GRAND in Williamsburg. I met the lovely Vane at her event this past Saturday. and we had a nice visit. It was a fun party with some pretty cool prizes, and it was for a great cause (all the proceeds from the raffle tickets went to the I Do Foundation).

I wasn't sure what I was going to make for the raffle. The only stipulations were that it need it to be something pretty and simple and that could fit in almost any wedding. Brides have been mentioning birds a lot lately, so I thought birds would be a good element with some signature Llubav roses. The pillow colors were white, ivory, off-white, butter, sand, apple green and lime green. I also included some white and gold beading, gold metallic thread for beak and feet and French silk satin ribbon.

About Llubav

I know many of you have been waiting for this post as much as I've been waiting to post the final piece of Miss and Mr. Popcorn's amusement park ring pillow. So, since Mr. and Miss P have already received their ring pillow, I can finally show you.

This theme touched my heart. I remember as a child in Peru waiting for the carnival to arrive and set up camp for a few weeks. Where I grew up for the first 10 years of my life, we didn't have Six Flags or anything like that, so if you wanted entertainment you waited for the circus, the fair or the carnival to come to your town. And when I saw that Annette and Tim were having their wedding at a vintage amusement park in Maryland — I jumped at the opportunity to not only create something unique an special for the couple but to also relive a little bit of my childhood.

Here are photos of the progression of the amusement park ring pillow:

Orange and Greens

June 10th, 2009 @ 4:10 pm by Llubav

Candace, from Texas, contacted me because she wanted to give a ring pillow as a wedding gift to a very special couple. The groom is her brother Zachary and the bride is her best friend Rachel — how sweet! So, as of June 6, Candace's best friend is now her sister-in-law.

About Llubav

It has been a very exciting couple of weeks thanks to Weddingbee Pro and Martha Stewart Weddings. I have been sewing, photographing, packing and shipping pillows. Sometimes, when I run out of room on my tiny orange table, I have to move on to the floor — but I don't recommend this if you have a small child. Ours loves tissue paper, and when I'm about to do a fold his little hands can't help but to tear it all up, and I have to start all over again. Oooh Mikus!

Dia de los Muertos

June 1st, 2009 @ 3:13 pm by Llubav

I am thrilled to post this “Day of the Dead” ring pillow! It is a summer wedding happening in June in Fairbanks, Alaska. The theme -a Mexican folk art, Dia De Los Muertos, traditional and modern with a vintage touch — how cool is that?

Chantial and Eric are from the beautiful state of Michigan. She is of Mexican descent and Eric is American. They are a couple excited to tie the knot and doing a lot for their wedding themselves. They made their stationary, and Chantial is screen-printing the linen napkins for the reception!

About Llubav

Sorry for blogging only one posting a week for Miss Popcorn's amusement park pillow but believe me it is totally worth the wait! This part looked like it was going to be a piece of cake, but I had to play around with different shapes and sizes quite a bit. I wasn't sure how I was going to give the illusion that it gets smaller from afar or how the flags were going to look in front of the sky trolley.

Anyway, I think it works and it's always fun trying something new. The party flags were sewn with white thread and they go across the pillow. Next week, you'll be able to see the flower cluster, and then I'll be posting the final piece!!

Here's a question for you! What color ring ribbon would you like to see on this pillow: red, yellow or blue?

Flower Girl Accessory

May 26th, 2009 @ 12:31 pm by Llubav

Thanks for the great response on the flower headbands I posted about last week. Here's another lovely piece I made for Pamela's flower girl. She wanted the flowers and colors to match those of the “lovebirds” ring pillow that I custom made. I also incorporated a feather to compliment her bouquet.

Check out Pamela's blog to see how she's putting her “Hollywood glam” wedding together and how she added her own twist to the piece.

New Headbands

May 21st, 2009 @ 9:46 am by Llubav

I've been looking forward to posting new photos my friend and talented photographer Abdi, at Three photographers, took a couple of weeks ago.

These little headbands were made for Lynne's flower girls. She's getting married the first week of June — not far from now! I was so thrilled when she brought up the idea of creating these head pieces. I always love going into Manhattan and searching for stuff, especially when I get to visit the trimming/beading district — so fun. :-)

Weddingbee Winner: Sewing the Carousel

May 19th, 2009 @ 4:36 pm by Llubav

I'm a bit exhausted from all the walking I did at the National Stationery Show and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair. I need a foot massage! The show had some great new vendors exhibiting and some old friends I hadn't seen in few years since my hable days. Also, at the show I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Bee and Cynthia from Bella Figura! Ladies, it was lovely visiting with you! :-)

So, here are more pictures of Miss Popcorn's vintage amusement park pillow. The very first piece sewn was the ferris wheel. Now, the second piece is the carousel pavilion, and it has some beading touches. I'm not showing the whole piece because I don't want to ruin it for Miss Popcorn, and I want to keep you in suspense. ;)

Have a great day!
