I believe your wedding album design should reflect your sense of style just as much as every other choice you make for your wedding day. To help you identify which wedding album design is most appealing to you, I've taken one set of images and created a variety of album designs to show how each album design affects the viewing and interaction of the images on the page. While there are literally infinite design possibilities for wedding albums, I've found that most designs can fall into one of the following categories: Fine Art, Traditional, Editorial, Collage, or Embellished. I've included a quick preview here, but you can click on the links to view the complete album design sample.
FINE ART
This album design displays one image per page, like a gallery in a book, allowing each image to stand on its own and command the full attention of the viewer one image at a time. Images are usually centered on the page with a white or black background or matting, with or without contrasting border/bevel (the sample below is black background with contrasting white border/bevel.) If the book is printed with images on the front and back of each page (allowing two images to lay side by side when open) there are opportunities for pairings of images that uncover hidden or implied relationships. If you're a minimalist, or want your album to look like a portfolio of art, this is the album design for you:
I have been a fan of Good Stock for a while, and I am just dying for an excuse (or the money) to make one of these. The amazingly talented team over at Good Stock creates the most beautiful, custom books. They range from family books, travel journals to the most beautiful wedding albums I have ever seen! I love the ability to incorporate design elements along with the photos. I would love to design one (or ten) of these with my photos!

Last June I received a sweet email from a designer who mentioned she follows my blog and wondered if I had any openings. I receive emails like this weekly it seems, but this one stuck with me for some reason. Not having given an in-house designer much thought before then, I wrote her back and asked her to come by the studio to chat.
The moment Christina walked into my studio she seemed familiar, as if I had known her for a long, long time. We hit it off, discovering we have several mutual friends including 2007 bride Alisa Young, and I loved her portfolio. Surprising myself, I suddenly realized I needed a designer and it had to be Christina.
Christina graduated from Gordon College with a BA in Fine Arts. She spent the next few years as a freelance graphic designer and worked as a manager at Papier Gourmet in Portland. Most recently she worked as a designer for Maine based stationery company William Arthur. During the two years she was there, Christina designed stationery and wedding albums for both Rita Renning and William Arthur and contributed to the production of Vera Wang fine papers. Christina lives in Portland with her husband Andrew and their adorable black lab, Olive. She enjoys yummy dinners, running (she's responsible for me going to bootcamp last December!), taking Olive to the beach and spending time with her hubby.
Every task Christina has completed for emilie inc. has benefited from her warm, kind, thoughtful personality that initially drew me to her. I am SO happy and lucky to have her a part of our team.
Many of my brides have already had the fortunate opportunity to work with Christina on their album design. I can't stress enough how important it is to follow the process through, and invest in a finished product of your beautiful wedding imagery to share with your children and your children's children. Below are a few spreads of Christina's recent designs. We've created a clean, simple style that showcases the images perfectly (the emilie inc circle is not printed on the album pages, fyi, it's simply used as a watermark on the blog only).

You have invested in great photography for your wedding (an engagement session or even a family portrait, too). These days, most photographers post your proofs online so there may not be a tangible product to show off from your photography coverage. But, there are many options for showcasing your stunning imagery. Below is a sample of the products I personally love.
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday! During the holidays I always try my best to create handmade or meaningful gifts. This year we made photo books for our family and friends using blurb.com. They are a great company creating beautiful quality books. All you do is download their free software and upload your photos using their templates. I used a lot of graphics overlaying onto my actual photos to create an even more custom look and feel. The most unique feature of blurb is that they offer “image wrap”, meaning your graphics get printed directly on the hard cover book. No dust jacket needed. I also opted for the premium paper option; just a few dollars more and definitely worth it. I highly recommend these photo books as gifts, portfolios, even recipe books! Definitely worth checking out!
