I love this behind-the-scenes glimpse of shooting a MSWedding. It’s no wonder the photographs of the invitations are so impeccable. They take a lot of work…and equipment! I have stood on a lot of furniture in my house in many random places trying to find the best natural light for photographing my stationery and invitations. I have a tripod, which has proved immensely helpful, but goodness look at that tripod! I need me one of those! Along with a stylist, crew, and pretty barn in the background.
I got a couple of e-mails after my last Q&A post asking me to elaborate more on creating a press kit to promote your product or services.
First, there are press releases and press kits–today I’m only going to go over press kits. Press releases are announcements that you write about events, promotions, or other newsworthy company information and send to media outlets for publicity–we can talk about that some other time.
…Why?
Are you an artist, musician, designer, promoter, or small business owner? Press kits are a valuable way to take your business to the next level and help you attract attention of media resources that can publicize your product or business for you. We’re talking a little bit of hard work and effort for a big return.
The goal of a press kit, sometimes referred to as a “media kit,” to get whatever it is you’re selling out of your home studio and into the pages of magazines and the homes of your target market. It’s to let people know that you exist and you’re doing fabulous things. It’s to sell yourself. Magazines, blogs, and other websites make their business out of searching for the next cool business or product, so why not make it easy for them and introduce yourself?

Helloooo everyone! Can it be? Is it really June already?! May was an absolute whirlwind, as I had 4 weddings in 5 weeks. Considering that I only take on 20-25 weddings a year max, that is a pretty intense month!
I apologize to all the readers for leaving you hanging! I assure you I have a ton of eye candy for you, so stick with me! Today, I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at a fab wedding I did last month at the ultra-hip 7 degrees.
I had the pleasure of working with stylish bride Marie (Fun fact: We went to the same high school!) long distance on this wedding. She knew from the outset that she wanted to have a sleek and modern wedding that oozed individuality. I can’t think of a better location for the modern bride than 7 degrees! The venue is equipped with incredible audio/visual and multimedia capabilities that allow for spectacular lighting and fun tech effects. Marie decided on a clean and fresh palette of grass green, turquoise, and eggplant purple. Our recurring design elements were peacock feathers, brushed aluminum and apples! One of my favorite décor pieces were these granny smith apples. We left some au naturel, and spray painted (yes spray painted!!) the rest in shades of rich purple and Caribbean blue. I was ecstatic that Marie was on board for my “painted apples” idea. I firmly believe that one of the keys to my success has been the trust my clients put in me and my (sometimes wacky) ideas!
Without further ado, here is a sneak peek at the set-up!

It has been a very exciting couple of weeks thanks to Weddingbee Pro and Martha Stewart Weddings. I have been sewing, photographing, packing and shipping pillows. Sometimes, when I run out of room on my tiny orange table, I have to move on to the floor — but I don’t recommend this if you have a small child. Ours loves tissue paper, and when I’m about to do a fold his little hands can’t help but to tear it all up, and I have to start all over again. Oooh Mikus! ![]()

It’s been an extremely busy week, but I don’t have much to show for it yet. I’m in the mood to make an easy post and answer more questions from you!

Q: What is your favorite color scheme and trend right now?
A: I love red. red red red. I was reading through a back issue of Where Women Create (awesome mag) and one of the featured artists said that she treated red like a neutral, and that really stuck with me. I’m starting to see shades of red matching with everything. I’m also totally in love with marigold and silver–that I have been into for a while though.
My favorite trends right now are heart-shaped glasses and super geometric patterns and construction.
A couple of weeks ago, the Smock team packed up and headed to New York City for the National Stationery Show for what proved to be an incredibly fun and exciting week. As I shared with Weddingbee PRO readers in advance, we launched three new letterpress wedding invitation designs and our new custom Social Occasions album at the show and it was so rewarding for us to meet people from around the country, people we work with daily from afar but rarely have the opportunity to see in person. It was such fun for us!

It’s taken me long enough to blog about this! I’m waiting on some pro pics, but here are a couple pictures from my little Canon point and shoot from the Modern Bride Trendsetter Awards dinner earlier this month.
Hello everyone! I know it’s been a while since I last posted a blog….it’s getting tricky with the season upon us now. I wanted to show you what we’ve been working on this week for our fantastic client getting married at the Wequassett this Saturday. Here are some photos… we’ll post more as we go along!

Chuppah preparations…. this is a big one!
To wrap up our wedding festivities, we had a party at the studio to celebrate with my family who couldn’t attend our island nuptials and invited a few close friends, too! Musician Peter Miles entertained our guests, while cupcakes and other yummies from Two Fat Cats and champagne from the Old Port Wine Merchants filled our bellies. We were definitely feeling the love!
Here are some pics of our booth from the National Stationery Show. Check out the fabulous couch and the flea market find dresser that Emily completely re-did.
