This is a shout-out to interpid Hello!Lucky intern Hillary Burgess — she recently helped create all the DIY details for her friend Lisa’s bridal shower, including the adorable postcard invitation above (from the couple’s engagement photo shoot by photographer and friend Jess Epstein). This invite is one of the top 4 finalists in The Bride’s Cafe’s DIY contest — the winner will be announced on Friday! Read the how-to instructions here.
I’m so excited person today because all of my equipment has finally arrived for the dessert studio! We are in the final stage of everything and hope to open by the end of the month!!! I even got to meet with some clients in my new office this past weekend. It was so much better than meeting up in a coffee shop! I will definitely be taking some more photos of the studio and post them up soon, but for now I wanted to share a fun cake decorating technique with you! I originally saw this design on another cake and loved the look of it, so I thought I would try it out. I came up with this easy method to get the lines even…I mean it has probably been done before, but I never saw a tutorial on it, so here it is for your viewing pleasure!

This post is all about love…I have been meeting with lots of brides lately, and recently we did some fun bridal showers and a wedding cake with mini desserts too. These first photos are of the wedding. The bride wanted to incorporate lots of color, her love of butterflies, and their gorgeous monogram that they featured on their invitations. This is the design we came up with!
Happy Friday everyone!
As promised, I am sharing this delicious, refreshing, addicting drink! So get ready to get some chips and guacamole, a margarita glass, and some salt because here it comes!!

Several Saturdays ago, we threw my sister a surprise bridal shower. It has been months in the making with my mom and I busy behind the scenes, including multiple secret trips to Portland, Maine {where I am from, where my parents and sister live, and where the shower was}.
My sister’s July wedding colors are black, white, pink, and green. The wedding does not have a theme, but elements Jess would like to harmoniously combine including hydrangeas, lighthouses, and…peacock feathers -all with a vintage twist. The peacock feathers will come into play for the wedding invitation and reception decor, but for now we focused on hydrangeas for the invitations and lighthouses for the centerpieces for the bridal shower. The invitations were letterpress in a fabulously bright pink on fluorescent white Lettra paper with coordinating envelopes. I knew her fiance would not want pink envelopes for the wedding invitation so now was my chance to get girlie. ![]()
After two months of keeping these a secret from Jess, I was finally able to show them to her and she loved them {and understands why I did not want to use hydrangeas on her wedding invitation}!
I got the chance to teach another cooking class at my church. I teach these classes once every other month as a ministry, and we always have a great time. This class’ theme was “Perfect Party Foods and Desserts.” I got a lot of inspiration for this menu from fellow bloggers and decided to make Bakerella’s Cupcake Bites and The Pioneer Lady’s Fancy Flower Pots. I wanted to spice these desserts up a bit by using mostly homemade components instead of using store-bought ones, although these would be delicious either way.
Everyone had a blast making these desserts, and I was thrilled with their creations. Both of these desserts would be great for a bridal shower. ![]()
So, to start off this long post I will begin with the photos of the Fancy Flower Pot desserts. I made chocolate peanut-butter and apricot-pistachio ice creams for this dessert. I also bought some quality store-bought ice cream and gelato so people would have a variety to choose from. Here are my photos to give you an idea of the process, but I would recommend going to The Pioneer Lady’s website for full instructions.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I wanted to share with you photos of treats I made.
I had a bridal shower to go to for one of my best friends. Her bridal shower theme was “shades of blue” so I made blue lingerie cookies for the shower. I wrote their initials on some of the cookies for a personal touch.
I had the pleasure of making more treats for my friend Karrie ’s second bridal shower. This time the shower was in San Diego, CA and it was at Tea Upon Chatsworth . I had never been to a tea house before and had an absolutely wonderful time. Tea and yummy treats…what could be better!
I was asked to make about 40 bridal shower favors for the ladies and decided that trying out mini cakes was the route I was going to take. My wonderful friend April from culinary school came over to help me with the project, but when midnight came she had to leave and that left me to finish them…lets just say that my head didn’t hit the pillow until around 4:30am. I don’t think I would’ve finished without April! I do have to say that I still ended up having a lovely day at the shower, even on 2 1/2 hours sleep, and I was pretty happy with how my little cakes turned out.

My sister is a breath of fresh spring air -she’s adorable, outgoing, feminine, stylish, and my hero in many ways. As the matron of honor for her upcoming wedding, I was delighted to collaborate with the bridesmaids and throw a simple but lovely spring shower for my big sis. I’m no stranger to weddings, but we all were clueless about throwing a bridal shower. Planning a shower is not so intimidating once you break it down and delegate jobs according to each bridesmaid’s talents and gifts.
This is an invite I created for a friend’s bridal shower. We threw her a mid day brunch on a farm. This is to tap into her nostalgic country girl! We had horseshoes, bocce ball, and hail-bails with quilts thrown on them around the fire pit for when she opens her gifts.
The invite is linen paper with a kraft paper envelope. All ink jet printed.
