About nancyliuchin

Here are the results form the last poll I did on my blog. Our question was: For a 100 guest wedding, what should the average floral budget be?

Under $1000                                            (34%)
Between $1000 - $3000                             (30%)
Between $3000 - $6000                             (20%)
10% of total Wedding Costs                       (15%)
Flowers are important, so skies the limit!    (3%)

This was one of the most interesting polls that I've had on my blog, so I decided to do some shopping. I went to cyberspace to see what $1000 would get me. The results are fascinating:

Laura @ Laura Hooper Calligraphy's Picture
Laura Hooper, Northridge, CA Vendor: Calligraphy Website: Laura Hooper Calligraphy About Me: I've been practicing the art of calligraphy since the age of 12 and nothing gives me more pleasure than waking up each morning knowing I get to do what I do each day. I love having the ability to infuse my own personal style into each of my bride's special day. When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, hiking, reading and painting; but most of the time I don't consider calligraphy to be work at all!
About Laura @ Laura Hooper Calligraphy

One of our brides getting married in the Florida Keys wanted beautiful invitations, but didn't have the budget for formal letterpress. The solution? Thermography - a simple process used in conjunction with any conventional wet-ink printing press. The printed sheets coming off a press pass through a powder application, where resin is applied to the wet ink. The resin is then removed from all areas, except where it adheres to the wet ink. The paper is then heated {hence the “thermo“} causing the resin to melt and fuse to the ink. The substrate is then cooled, which finalizes the process.

You can’t turn on the TV without being blasted with news about the tumultuous economy. Job losses. Plummeting stocks. A real estate market that continues to tank. It’s enough to make any girl get the jitters. And as if the recession wasn’t enough, you’ve got to plan a wedding! What if you can’t afford the wedding you really want? Check out these high-impact ideas on how to slash your wedding costs.

  1. Invite fewer guests. Cutting back your wedding guest list to include only those who are close to you will make a significant difference in your wedding cost. You’ll save on reception costs such as centerpieces (you’ll need less), food, drinks, favors, wedding cake (smaller is cheaper) and wedding venues. You just might find that the savings will mean you can splurge on the things that really matter to you. Besides, given the recession, there’s a good chance that some of your friends and distant family might actually feel relieved that they don’t have to come up with hundreds of dollars in travel expenses and wedding gifts.
  2. Have the ceremony and reception in one place. Many small wedding venues such as inns and bed and breakfasts can accommodate both the ceremony and reception. Chances are you’ll have less of a rental fee - and you’ll save money on transportation and decorations.
  3. DIY. Thank heavens for DIY culture! With a few clicks of the mouse you can learn to make just about anything. There’s a plethora of websites on how to make everything from bridal centerpieces to edible favors. Bridal forums and DIY wedding books are also great resources for how-to info. The earlier you plan the more time you’ll have for DIY wedding projects.
