Hope everyone is having a fabulous week! I want to share some fun photos with you. Over the last few months, I have had some amazing experiences with so many talented vendors in the wedding industry, and I am so happy to share them with you! This photo shoot was for a top San Diego wedding magazine, and I was privileged enough to work with LaVonne from Adorations, who did all the floral designs, Rebecca Gaffney and Mia Saling from Red Letter Days who designed the second shoot, and Karrie Pyke from Posh Paperie who did the menus and notecards.
The first tablescape was a Hawaiian theme, and I think it turned out lovely! I decided to make mini cakes for the table, and we wanted to match the invitations with the dessert so we printed the pattern on edible frosting sheets. We then covered the mini cakes in fondant and wrapped the cake with the frosting sheets. We piped mini white royal icing dots, added a yellow circle of fondant on top, and finished if off with yellow sugar plumerias. LaVonne came up with the great idea to place the mini cakes in a gorgeous peony -love, love, loved it! Everyone really came together and created a beautiful look! ![]()

My niece's birthday was coming so I thought I would make her a purse cake for her birthday. This is also a great idea for a bridal shower (for a purse obsessed bride-to- be).
For this purse cake I have to say that I didn't really go with one exact purse, but rather combined different elements of purse cakes and other cake details that I have seen and wanted to try out. I also tried to take some photos along the way so you could see how the basic structure is built. Hope you enjoy it!

The photos below are from some recent orders I did, and I thought I would share them with you!
These first photos are of a recent bridal shower cake my sister and I made for my new sister-in-law to be! We knew we wanted to make a new type of sugar flower, so my sister created this gorgeous pink garden rose. It was so beautiful that I thought it should be the main focus of the cake and went with a more simplistic look overall.

This post is on the last part of my wonderful Ron Ben-Israel class that I took. I wanted to document every step of the class for you with my trusty camera (and I did). Unfortunately, I have had complaints about posting too many images from the class and giving away too many details, so I had to refrain from putting up a lot of the photos that I had taken. Hopefully you will enjoy these photos though! ![]()
First off are the finished sweet pea flowers. After the flowers had dried over night, we colored them with petal dust to make the flower look more realistic. This definitely brings out the inner artist in you and ends up being a lot of fun.
In January, I had the pleasure of taking a 3-day class from Ron Ben-Israel at Caljava International School here in California. I only take one or two of these types of classes per year since they are quite costly. When I heard that Ron Ben-Israel, one of New York's top cake artists, was teaching I knew I had to go. Thankfully, my parents gave me half the money for the class for my Christmas present, and I was able to come up with the rest. You should definitely check out this school; they have top-notch teachers like Bronwen Weber, Kerry Vincent, and Colette Peters, among many others. Students come from all over the world to take these classes and they are clearly worth it.

When I first starting baking and decorating cakes I was always amazed at topsy turvy cakes. There was a mystery about them, and I could never quite figure out what technique they used to make them stable enough. To tell you the truth, one of my worst cake experiences was when I tried to make my niece her first birthday cake and attempted this style of cake for the first time. Unfortunately everything went wrong. I sadly ended up taking the top two tiers off and just presenting the bottom tier…definitely not one of the finer moments in my cake career.
Thankfully those days are in the past, and now the fears and anxiety of making topsy turvy cakes is over. Since I have always found myself scouring the internet to get helpful hints about these styles of cakes and never found a tutorial that I loved, I thought I would post one for all of you, so you didn't have to go through the same trouble I did. I hope that you find this tutorial helpful and get the courage to try and make one of these cakes!

My sister and I are trying to learn how to make all sorts of sugar flowers. We have become quite obsessed with them, and my credit card bill definitely proves it! I have only actually taken one class from Ron Ben-Israel on how to make sweet pea sugar flowers, and the rest we have learned through books and watching videos from Nicholas Lodge. Sugar flowers are very tedious and require a lot of patience (and tools), but they are also one of the more artistic aspects of cake decorating.
The cake was buttermilk cake with white chocolate mousse buttercream and fresh strawberries…yummy! We made it for a recent bridal shower and were very excited to put our sugar flower knowledge to the test and create a gorgeous cake for the bride-to-be!
Have you ever wondered, “How do they do that?” Well, you are not the only one! When I saw some cakes in Martha Stewart's Weddings magazine a while back, I couldn't believe the amazing designs on them. So, I did my research and found out how they did it.
They used cake stencils!! You can get these amazing cake stencils online from Designer Stencils. Definitely check out their site and see all the different designs you can buy. All you need is some royal icing, a small offset spatula or bench scraper (something with a flat edge) and gel based food coloring, if you want the design to have color.
So here is my little tutorial for you. Hope you enjoy it!
I am always trying to come up with new ways to use some of the leftover trimmings and letterpress scraps I have here my studio. In the past I've made mini gift enclosures and favor tags, and now I've started making these little cupcake flags. Since they are made from scraps, the alignment of the artwork is a little different on each one - which I like, since it keeps everything from looking too formal - I think cupcakes should be fun!
