I was perusing 100 layer cake the other day (one of my new faves!), and there was this post on a calligraphy website called iampeth.
I recently worked on a project with Blue Magpie and Details Details, both based in Orange County. This set features my newest font style, Spencerian, in gold ink - it hasn’t even been released on my website yet, but keep a look out for it to be added soon! {It will be marked as a Tier 3 script}

I wanted to share these gorgeous photos courtesy of Lucky Paperie in Atlanta of a three color letterpress invitation and all its perfect paper accessories for a lovely wedding that took place last year in Maui. The invitations were printed individually on hand-made paper from Porridge Paper and utilize three custom ink colors. They were placed in tissue and tied with a Midori double-faced satin ribbon with a sea shell in each. I then hand-calligraphed the boxes in my Camden script style to match the style writing on the invitation.

How could I resist posting this map for a wedding in Islesboro Maine? It was a destination wedding for my lovely client Gina and her fiance Christopher, that took place on this small island off the coast of mainland Maine. It’s a land of lobsters and fishermen, and the map displays it all. The gals got beautified at the Cutting Edge Salon while the men sailed around Penobscot Bay on the Schooner Olan, depicted in Camden Harbor.
Since the wedding took place over 4th of July weekend, how could the map be complete without a display of fireworks? This couture designer map is the perfect addition to an invitation set or a welcome basket!
Check out these adorable favors I worked on for a garden wedding last year. The event was coordinated and catered by Lady Liberty Events & Catering, owned by Liberty Woodman in the LA area. The theme was shabby chic.

Colby approached me over a year ago to create the beautiful invitation for her wedding in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii. I was very excited to take part in her DIY invitation adventure. She had the calligraphy artwork letterpress by Jill Nieporte of Jill Cate and then she assembled all the pieces herself. The invitation was quite large, and it was pressed on a very fine handmade paper in a copper ink. Each invitation had a watermark of her initial in the Hawaiian Quilt. It was truly so unique and beautiful. The paper was then layered over a thicker handmade paper and rolled into a scroll. The components were all placed in a tube with a label I addressed in copper metallic ink to each guest. It was truly a challenge to find an ink that would write on these fibrous handmade paper labels Colby printed and tore herself. Instead of an inner envelope, she incorporated a paper band with each guest’s name and tied with a copper ribbon, sealed with wax.
Menus wrapped in belly bands and calligraphed in elegant scripts are the epitome of luxury. These gorgeous menus and placecards, printed by Joanna at Nickelson’s Invitations added just a touch of dramatic flair to what was already an extravagant affair.

As a professional calligrapher, I have been very fortunate to work with thousands of clients all across the country and even in the U.K., Caribbean, Canada, Italy and Australia. I have so many wonderfully successful memories, but as in any business, there have been a few obstacles to overcome. I know most of my readers are brides and other wedding professionals. This information is for you, especially if you have never looked into calligraphy before. In order to ensure that your order is as beautiful as you picture it, it is extremely important to keep in mind the following points:

A great map for a wedding last year in Oahu, calligraphy in upright script. It details locations important to the bride and groom, plus offers suggestions on the island’s popular tourist attractions. If you are interested in these adorable maps as postcard save the dates, traditional save the dates, invitation enclosures or for your welcome baskets please contact me for pricing. I also had someone request the maps to be printed in one color on their cocktail napkins! How cute would that be?

As a calligrapher, I am constantly asked, “What is the difference between hand-written calligraphy and computer-generated calligraphy?” I am asked this question so often that I thought it was necessary to address it here. Much of the difference comes down to price; hand-lettered calligraphy is, of course, more costly. You are paying a person to sit down for hours and rewrite your guest list in elaborate flourishing calligraphy styles. It looks amazing, and when your guests receive their invitation, they will know that they are special to you. Hand-written calligraphy makes it obvious to your friends and family that they mattered to you enough to pay someone to write their names and addresses out by hand, the traditional way. It is often a painstaking process to shape each letter and flourish, and get it right.
