I thought I’d start off by telling you a little about how I became a floral and event designer!
I actually worked for several Bay Area retailers including Emporium-Capwells, Macy's - Federated and Gap's Banana Republic stores before my floral career. One of my favorite jobs was working for a small women's specialty store called Bebe. As a retailer merchandise planner I worked very closely with the design department, as well as with my merchandise partners in creating the perfect assortment of women's tops, casual pants, sportwear, and accessories. Allocating the right assortment was one of the key tasks, but outside of my duties as a retailer planner. I had a rather interesting job of helping the designers pinpoint the right colors for each distinctive line. The selection of the right hue of a blue was just as important as knowing the right hem line. And also the selection of a group of colors each season could make the difference of a successful year or not.
My experience with choosing colors and pairing the right combination are skills that I continue to master and believe or not - these same skills are used in designing weddings! With wedding flowers and event decor, it is even more important to get that right mix of colors.
One of my favorite things is to choose unexpected color combinations. This wedding that I worked on mixes two very vibrant colors. The images are provided by the wonderfully talented Lisa Lefkowitz. I love that aquamarine and poppy red work so well with each other. It makes for a refreshing bold statement that is modern and appropriate for today's fashionable brides.
Enjoy!
