A Marriage!: Nole and Andrew

March 17th, 2009 @ 1:26 pm by Punam Bean

We made the drive down to DC for an afternoon wedding in Maryland country with Nole and Andrew (and horses!!!). It. Was. GORgeous! So many amazing details, such a beautiful, laid-back couple, with beautiful families, and amazing, amazing light poking through amazing trees. It was just Husbone and I, and we really had a blast sharing this day with Nole and Andrew…

A Marriage!: Halleh and Geoff

March 5th, 2009 @ 8:32 am by Punam Bean

There are just SO MANY images from this wedding I want to share.

Halleh and her family are all from Iran. They are Baha’i, an oppressed people in that country. Halleh shared with me stories about how she was not allowed to go to school in Iran and she was not allowed a passport or a job, and when the Islamic government took over, they fired all the Baha’i people and asked for all their wages back. Finally, in the 1990s, Halleh was able to get a passport and leave the country. Her sisters smuggled themselves across the border years before that with the blessing of their mother, who didn’t know whether or not they would ever see each other again. And the amazing thing is, that they all were able to get out, and they live here now, after not seeing each other for many, many years. And Halleh met Geoffrey, from Milwaukee, and he’s learning Farsi for her. They married on the roof of their condo, which turned out to be awesome, and right in downtown DC with a view of the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building.

This wedding had everything I love about weddings in it. There was rain, there was lots of dancing, there were cultures colliding, sincere support and love, family all around, the weather was warm, the sky was hazy and cloudy, we could see rain clouds in the distance, it was windy and it rained, and she wore my two favorite kinds of veils (a birdcage for the ceremony and a long one that flapped around in the wind all evening). There was Persian music and American music, and everyone was dancing all the time under orange nighttime clouds. There were lots of kids, a cute baby, and everyone was having a grand old time. And we ended the night with a thunderstorm. Outside. On the roof. AMAZING. Halleh threw caution to the wind and spun around in circles in her wedding dress. I threw caution to the wind and took way too many pictures, but here’s a recap, with a little extra love. Enjoy!

A Marriage!: Anne and Dan

February 24th, 2009 @ 5:50 pm by Punam Bean

After a long e-mail courtship, I finally got to meet Anne and Dan in the flesh. A couple of days later, I got to see them again for getting-married time. A marriage is not just the union of two people, but a union of families. I couldn’t think of a better example of this than these two amazing families. I love what I do, I love shooting weddings, and I love all of my couples. But I really have a special place in my heart for a boisterous group of dancers, and this wedding really takes the cake!

Beth & Fred Engagement

January 29th, 2009 @ 11:45 am by Anne @ Anne Ruthmann Photography

I absolutely adore Beth & Fred. Spending time with them is like sitting in on an “I Love Lucy” show - there’s just so much comedy, sarcasm, and love in the air that I think I walked away from our engagement session with cheek cramps from laughing so much! They have a really cute home in Washington, DC (loooove the green wall and don’t even get me started on all of the awesome furniture) which they share with their adorable dog, Ruckus.

Dancing Down the Aisle

Who says that elegant weddings have to be stiff? Not Kate & Stephen!! Even in the midst of all the elegance, the energy was all about having fun and enjoying good company. These world travelers really know how to throw a party and enjoy themselves!! I feel so lucky that they chose me to capture their wedding memories!!

Sharyn & Matt are amazing people. I tried to come up with some clever analogy to somehow describe why they are so amazing, but everything just seemed to fall short of being an accurate summation of their amazingness. Let me put it this way… these are the kind of people who change the world, for the better. Now that I’ve completely built them up, let me show you just how cool, humble, and down to earth their wedding was and why I have such a crush on them…
