About Amy Salinger

The greatest thing about wedding season is that it is not only yours that you have to contend with! From friends to family, doesn’t it seem like everyone is getting married?! So, on top of putting together your big day, you have to make sure that you look fabulous as the perfect wedding guest too! The fun part of this equation is that most of the other guests are party hopping from wedding to wedding with you so wearing the same dress is just not an option. Alas, your closet simply grows and grows with an overflowing amount of cocktail dresses that seem to only have a home for one day.

Stop the madness!!! It is time to reuse those cocktail dresses that hang so sadly at the back of your closet. They want to come out and play, and I am here to show you how! No more guilt over having to buy yet another cocktail dress. Your regular daytime to evening activities attire is never going to have looked so good!

So, whip out those forgotten wedding cocktail dresses and get ready to style, style and style some more! It is all about owning the right pieces to mix it up. As my Sass N Style episode shows, choosing the right pieces to pair your dress with makes all the difference. Between the right bobbles, fantastic purse, perfect jacket and a fabulous pair of sandals, you are going to take that cocktail right out of the dress! That certainly does not mean I will take the cocktail out of your hand. :grin:

Follow along with my easy and chic tips for making every dress shine for a second or even third time!

Headpiece Heaven

May 22nd, 2009 @ 5:46 pm by Amy Salinger

Whoever said that wedding style couldn’t be over the top and fabulously amazing?!? Certainly classic and elegant will always reign on this wonderful day, but adding that bit of pizzazz can certainly set you apart from the rest of the bridal crowd. I am not talking about donning a black dress or having a themed wedding (although both of these are completely acceptable!). I am blogging about adding that little something that will have your very attentive audience (the wedding guests) talking up a storm!

The headpiece, my dear readers, is a great way to add some personality and individuality to your wedding look. With brides becoming similarly attired, isn’t it time to add your own spin to your big day ensemble? The clear answer is a resounding yes! :grin:

If stepping out of the box too far is a bit overwhelming for you, I would try a jeweled headband. It is still underneath the realm of classic and elegant yet it is clearly a step away from the ordinary. You are a princess without the typical crown. The other beautiful aspect of utilizing this type of piece is that you will be able to use it after your big day. It is a quick and simple way to add a bit of flash to any outfit!

Everyone is always looking for that perfect bathing suit, and many of you might be looking for something cute for your honeymoon. The bathing suit that they can slide on without feeling dread and despair or that allows them to actually enjoy the sun without constantly tugging and tucking….Ladies, as your personal online stylist, I think I have found that suit.

There are many teeny tiny bathing suits, finding them is not a problem. Having time to work out five times a week and prepare overly healthy meals to achieve a bikini bod is. So, for the more realistic body types with curves, here is a bathing suit that you can drink a pina colada in on your honeymoon without feeling guilty. Mmmm, pina colada. :grin:

Wedding Guest Chic

Amy salinger wedding attire

I don’t know why I never thought about this before? I dress up for different occasions all the time and consider myself (and my clients) a walking billboard for my styling business. With that said, it’s only recently that I began to post pictures of some of my favorite looks that I think you lovely readers could take away from. So, from here on out, I will make it a habit to take shots of outfits that I truly love -outfits that really make a statement and might serve as a learning tool (basically, outfits that rock ;)).

Last weekend, I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio from NYC to attend a wedding. I knew not a soul there, including the bride and groom, except for my boyfriend. To me, this only means that I have even more of an opportunity to make a splash! When one’s career is to dress people, it is highly important to look the part especially when the audience has never met you before!!!

This lovely recession has even hit this fashionista, so my first mission was to borrow a dress. Find a stylish friend…check! Find a stylish friend who is my size…check! Find a stylish friend who is my size and will lend me a dress for a weekend…check, check and check!!! The lovely Miss Erin Donnelly (Star of Sass N Style: Shop Your Closet) was kind enough to lend me the purple frock above. The yellow tie is from J. Crew and had nothing to do with the dress…that is until we started looking through her closet for something to cinch the dress and the tie jumped out! Most people would never have paired the two together, but that is what really makes “a look”. A dress and heels is one thing, but creating an ensemble is quite another.

Laura was born and raised in rural Alaska among huskies, grizzly bears and way too much flannel! With stars in her eyes, Lo moved to New York to pursue acting and realized how makeup could help to create a character and transform an actor. Laura began to see how she could use this skill to transform women in their everyday life and thus her new passion was born - helping women feel confident and beautiful through makeup.

We threatened to do it and here it is -the first Lo and Amy post! We are combining our powers of fashion, style and beauty to cover spring from head to toe!

Amy says: Spring may be here, but that certainly does not mean that Mother Nature knows it! With temperatures greatly changing from day to day, this may be the most difficult time of the year to get dressed. Even for a seasoned stylist like me it can get really annoying. So, why not have some tried and true looks that will always keep you stylish and weather proof!?!

Cameron Diaz has done a fabulous job of rocking a look that can go anywhere from 60 to 80 degrees. It is all about the layering folks! Her light spring scarf and chic blazer make this a realistic outfit for the vast range of temperatures that this time of year can bestow upon us. Nothing about this outfit is too far off range, so anybody can feel comfortable in it.  Look at the foundation of the ensemble -jeans and a t-shirt. Seriously folks, that is it! She punches up the look and makes it appropriate for spring by adding in pops of color. The purple scarf and yellow flats make the basics of the outfit really sing. The simplicity of her bobbles, necklace and layered bracelets, keep the look fun and flirty. By piling on or peeling off any of these sassy layers, you too can weather the storm of Mother Nature’s ups and downs!

Lo says: As we throw off our socks, hats and gloves it can be a little frightening to see what we have had covered up for the last six months! Fear not, as I have a few simple tricks to help transition to warmer weather.

Lo and Amy!

April 30th, 2009 @ 2:53 pm by Laura Nadeau @ Lo and Co

I stumbled across Amy Salinger’s website and blog and immediately knew that I must meet her! Our websites are nearly identical in content -with our blogs, videos and practical advice for real people!

Lo avataramy salinger avatar

It is a little spooky that her avatar is similar to mine -seriously. I sent her an email and was elated when she responded. We met up for coffee, and we were off talking a mile-a-minute like we were identical twins who had just found each other. We are practically separated from birth (except that she has brown hair and eyes, was raised on the East Coast and is Jewish). ;) But, we are style sistas -and that is all that matters.

Amy has these fantastic videos that show you how to work with items that you most likely already own. There are videos on how to work with belts (great safety pin secret!), organize your closet, find the perfect jeans and much more. Her blog is a must read, as she combines great tips with a sense of humor that will add a little levity to your day. It is like having a BFF that is your own personal stylist! She’s also had some great posts for brides here on Weddingbee PRO.

Amy and I are putting together some fun and fabulous posts on style. So if you have any questions or concerns that you would like addressed, please leave us a comment below!

Rehearsal Dinner Fabulous!

April 7th, 2009 @ 2:55 pm by Guest

Here is another installment of fashion advice from stylist Amy Salinger!

~~~
Most girls getting married are so focused on the actual big day itself, that sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to get ready for every other wedding related party! You know what I am talking about — there is the shower, the rehearsal dinner, the day-after brunch, and on, and on.  One of my favorite services that I offer is my “Complete Bride” package where we shop for outfits for wedding events other than the actual day of.  So don’t worry; I am here to help! :)
One of the most important wedding related events is the rehearsal dinner. Everyone super important is there, and you and your fiance are the center of attention. You want to be pretty, polished and most of all, stand out in a fabulously stylish way.
Think pretty cocktail dress with the possibility for longevity after this big extravaganza is over, since you simply cannot buy an entirely new wardrobe for everything wedding related.  A great silhouette that looks great on most body types is anything cinched at the waist with a bit of movement around the hips and legs. A ‘50s style dress with a sweetheart neckline is a perfect fit for any bride that wants to look sassy, trendy and modern yet classic. Think Audrey Hepburn meets 2009.
This Diane Von Furstenburg dress on the left is on sale, but, try this White House Black Market option for a more budget conscious choice. It will look just as lovely!
