…is for the birds! In more ways than one.

Oh! I had such a time goccoing on fabric this time around. I had not printed on fabric since January, and I think that is the key. It was cold. Very, very cold. When I printed these birds, it was hot. Very, very hot. The gocco fabric ink was acting like a liquid running everywhere, and the bird was printing like a blob. I certainly printed as many, if not more, duds than good ones. I still have a few more to go, but here is a photo of most of them.
I think one of the first things my sister knew she wanted for her wedding were coasters that said, “Eat, Drink, be Married.” When it came time to decide whether she and her now-husband wanted favors or not, I suggested using the coasters not only for the reception, but for favors as well.

It must be the paper, because I have never tasted the chocolate. Above are chocolate bars from the Mast Brothers -leaders of the chocolate revolution and pretty packaging with Italian papers. From all the articles I have read, it sounds like people would give their left arm for a tiny morsel of this goodness. I am completely charmed by their process. The brothers clean, sort, roast, and refine the cacao beans in small batches themselves and develop the flavors, like almond + sea salt. They also hand-wrap and tape each bar closed themselves {my favorite part}.
In the brief and fleeting moments I have thought about our wedding favors, I think an edible one is the way to go, especially when they are this pretty. Many people will be traveling to our wedding and to give them something such as a small plant or flowers {our first choices} will only be appreciated for a day or two, then left behind. Plus, who does not want to nibble on a bit of chocolate before their dinner comes?
But back to the paper. I actually own some sheets of the same paper. Which makes me think -maybe I should do this myself. If I did it myself I could:
1. Customize the paper as well as the label; 2. Buy chocolate bars from local shops {such as my favorite, Haven’s, in Maine}; 3. Then I would not have to travel to Brooklyn to get these chocolate bars; and 4. Not spend $7 - 8 per bar {well, I will have to crunch some numbers and get back to you on that part}, even though I am quite sure they are worth it.
Now I want some chocolate. ![]()

Just the other day I was singing the praises of consumable wedding favors. Then, I found these Oreo truffles made with Oreo cookies. Wouldn’t these make divine DIY wedding favors? Place them in a lovely box with ribbon and presto - your guests will love you. I discovered them on Whismy Love, and I’ve been dying to make some of my own. I enjoyed the step-by-step photo tutorial on Whimsy Love (especially the Oreo truffle smile photo). Check it out. The recipe is from Recipeazzar.

This past week was a crazy one for me again, but I have some photos for you. Basically you are getting a random post with lots of photos, so hopefully you like it! ![]()
First off is a wedding cake I did. The bride gave me a basic look and colors she wanted to incorporate and then left the rest up to me. The cake had two different flavors -red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and banana buttermilk cake with peanut butter frosting and chocolate ganache filling -definitely two of my favorite choices! The cake was covered in swiss meringue buttercream, and then I piped a shell border and added silver dragees and dahlias to the cake. Overall I liked the cake -simple, yet elegant.
Almost all of our clients want to personalize something for their wedding, and there are a couple of ways to do this. Of course, just really thinking out the details is a way to personalize your wedding. Picking some appetizers that you enjoyed as a kid, or an entree that you ate when your fiance proposed are two subtle ways to personalize a wedding. Using your favorite color or overall sense of style is another great way, one that more people will usually pick up on.
Then there is the literal personalization of items for your wedding, and there are a lot of options to work with. Personalizing items you will be using during the actual wedding is a great way to “brand” your event. Monograms, your wedding date, first names are all great icons that can be applied to almost anything: cocktail napkins, top of your menus, favor tags or stickers, a large decal or gobo image on your dance floor, or even a design on your cake. Then there are the things that you give to your guests that they will keep forever, or at least you hope they do.
Personalizing something that is taken out of the context of your wedding event isn’t always the best idea, as your guests don’t usually want to use something that has someone else’s name on it. Classic example would be the engraved picture frame with your name and wedding date on it for your place card holder. People don’t really have a need for a frame that is smaller than a 3 x 5, but then to have someone else’s name and date on it really limits its usability. If they had a photo taken of themselves at your wedding and wanted to display that they certainly could, but I can’t really think of another reason to use it. Etched candle holders with your wedding date is another passe idea, candle holders in general tend not to be too great of an option. If you’re having a welcome basket or bag, personalizing the welcome letter is a great idea to help start the branding process, but personalizing the bag itself is costly and usually not as pleasing for your guests.
