About Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

I would love to take a little vacation to Italy right about now. Europe around the holidays sounds lovely. Next spring, Jamie and her fiance are getting married on a vineyard in Gaiole in Chianti, Italy at Castello di Meleto. It just sounds romantic, no?

A Wedding Under the Cosmos

September 16th, 2009 @ 5:37 pm by Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

Hi there! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. We went up to Brimfield on Sunday, and we left tired & disppointed. It was the last day of the last show of 2009, so that may be the reason. We are going to give it another try in May 2010.

Before the weekend I sent off another beautiful invitation suite to a couple in Tennessee who are getting married at the Cosmos Club in Washington D.C. The club began as a society that embraced the sciences and the arts and is located in a Beaux Arts mansion. While inspired by the ornate architecture of the building and its rooms, we decided to focus on the word “Cosmos” and shoot straight into the galaxies! Shelley and her fiance, Willie, were looking for a real “deep space” feel to their invitations, so I used hundreds of stars in various shapes and forms to surround the words of the invitations.

Meadow Wedding

September 2nd, 2009 @ 6:28 pm by Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

meadow wedding

This particular invitation does not have an rsvp. Instead, the couple opted for adding their website on the invitation directing people to rsvp online. This may not be the way for everyone, but it certainly is an eco-friendly option. For an added bit of fun, I designed a matching pattern for the envelope liners and gocco printed those as well. From the bride’s description of the wedding it sounds like it is going to be a perfectly easy, breezy wedding afternoon full of family & friends. Birds swirling around in a field of wildflowers. Sounds like a lovely setting for a wedding to me!

Happy first of September! Let’s talk about palm trees, shall we? Marisa, the bride, was a fan of Miss Bruschetta’s rehearsal dinner invitations, so I began the design from there. Marisa was inspired by vintage postcards of palm trees on the beach, so I used a vintage palm tree image on the invitation. Her colors are orange, yellow, and green, but we decided to use just orange and green on creamy Lettra paper in pearl. The invitations are square and were gocco printed.

I really love that couples are interested in sending invitations for their rehearsal dinners and not just as an after-thought. Rehearsal dinners are often an integral part of what is now becoming the “wedding weekend.” Carrying your theme throughout all of paper pieces for your wedding keeps the look of your wedding cohesive and consistent {did I ever mention my background is in marketing…? ;)}. Until tomorrow…

About Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

Well the ever-lovely peony is packing its bag, going to the Caribbean!  Ali, the bride, initially wanted me to design a magnet as their save the date, but as we worked more on the design, and the fact that it is a destination wedding, we quickly realized this was turning into much more. Enter the folded card {for a second time this week!}.  Inspired by the florals I have used in previous designs, Ali knew she loved the peony, and her wedding colors are pink and brown.  Perfect!

The peony graces the front of the card along with some simple text and elegant swirls.  The inside is a bit text heavy, but there is a lot of planning and information to share when a destination wedding is involved!  To break-up the reading, Ali and David chose a fun photo of themselves on the beach for their magnet which included their wedding date and website, adding just the right touch of whimsy to the save the date!  The save the date was gocco screenprinted on 100% lettra paper with bright pink & warm chocolate inks.  Look for their coordinating wedding invitation suite to come in the next few months!  Those will be letterpress.  I cannot wait!

Cypress Tree Wedding

August 11th, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

Yellow and gray is so lovely, no? The cypress trees of the wedding location of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California inspired this suite. Though I have never seen a cypress in person, it looks so elegant with its curving trunk. I love these invitations, especially the envelopes and the return address with the mini tree! Rich declared that to be his favorite part as well. I have no doubt this will be a truly beautiful wedding under the trees and next to the ocean. An invitation can make you feel that way…

On a side note, this cypress printed :: perfectly :: It can be a bit difficult to print large solid areas on a gocco, but I have pretty much mastered the technique {finally!} . The results are truly stunning when the ink coverage is smooth and consistent.

About Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

I love Queen Anne’s Lace. Love it! So much so, I plan to have it at my own wedding. I am glad Haley, the bride, liked it as well. I have been wanting to use the image for a casual outdoor summer wedding, and that is just what Haley was looking for. After many chats about travel {must go back to Amsterdam, quick!} the design was finalized and printed with my gocco. The imagery is elegant and the vibrant colors of yellow and blue keep it modern and fun. I like how Haley chose to keep the rsvp open so people were free to write their own message to the bride and groom. The invitations and rsvps were printed on smooth cream stock and the envelopes were 100% recycled kraft {my house envelopes!}.

Recent Work and Such

August 6th, 2009 @ 2:44 pm by Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

Hello everyone!  I thought I would share a few recent invitations.  I usually dedicate a whole post to a single invitation, but I need to do some catching up over here!

For this baby shower invitation, the client wanted a more modern and clean look for a nursey rhyme themed shower.  I created a custom illustration of a cow jumping over the moon, using this classic rhyme as inspiration.  I used bold colors to keep the invitation modern, plus the mom-to-be is having a boy!  These came out just adorable.  The invitations were gocco screenprinted on a smooth 110lb stock using deep yellow and navy inks, along with pink, green, and coral for the name.

Wedding at the Beach

August 5th, 2009 @ 1:23 pm by Sarah @ Parrott Design Studio

This couple is getting married on Cape Cod this summer and wanted a very distinct, yet simple beach theme.  I created a custom illustration of a picketed beach fence and grass, along with a custom pattern for the envelope liner.  The couple loved boats so I incorporated a simple row boat into the rsvp design.  Nothing says surf and sun quite like the bright yellow & blue palette, right?  I will never grow tired of such a cheery yellow.  These invitations were gocco screenprinted on bright white, smooth 110lb stock.

Perhaps you will make it to the beach this weekend.  It is a working weekend for me {most of my weekends are…}.  Actually… speaking of work.  Some of you who have been reading for awhile may know, I work for a local non-profit during the day {event planning, marketing, & such}.  Like other non-profits and businesses everywhere, we were hit hard by a lack of funding this year.  Thus, I have been asked to work part-time.  A blessing in disguise, I say because now I will have two full days to devote just to Parrott Design Studio {and less nights where I am up until 2am I hope!}.  It is an exciting chapter as I hope to make my way from part-time to full-time boss of me!

…is for the birds! In more ways than one.

Oh! I had such a time goccoing on fabric this time around. I had not printed on fabric since January, and I think that is the key. It was cold. Very, very cold. When I printed these birds, it was hot. Very, very hot. The gocco fabric ink was acting like a liquid running everywhere, and the bird was printing like a blob. I certainly printed as many, if not more, duds than good ones. I still have a few more to go, but here is a photo of most of them.
