Thank you, Fall, for the most beautiful weather Nashville has seen in quite some time. We’ve had days in the 60s and 70s for days and days. To me, it makes up for the blistering days of summer we have here in the South.
These headbands I made a few weeks back are just the sort of sunny, buttery goodness that reminds me of these recent Autumn days. Maybe they’re like the hair equivalent of a toasted piece of pumpkin bread.
Plus, I’m kind of in love with that polka-dotted tulle.
The headband, that is!
I’ve had a less hectic month than most, so I had a little bit of time to work on pieces that weren’t necessarily commission-based. The result? A few fancy headbands… and one sparkly necklace. All but Loretta and Shirly can be worn traditionally or over the forehead.
Feeling demure? Wear it pushed back!
Feeling like a hippy-dippy love child? Pull it down!

Kate’s shoot was at 2:00 in the afternoon just like many day ceremonies are, and the team wanted to give Kate a mod look during the day since her location was an urban setting. With the right techniques and careful thought of makeup, hair, dress, and flowers, the mod look pulled together just the right way for a day wedding. Here’s how the team handled hair and makeup!
The sexy and sassy stylist (I just love alliteration) and fellow PRO blogger, Amy Salinger asked me to be a guest for her Fab in Five video. Amy has a slew of great videos on youtube and her website/blog is amazing. Click here to subscribe to Amy’s videos. Check it out for stylish yet practical tips. I had a blast doing this video and am planning on doing more how-to videos this month.
NARS Multiple Creme Duo ($45) or Nars Blush/Bronzer Shadow Duo ($37) - A must have in my makeup kit.
Avon’s Mark Cosmetics has some great blush and bronzers at a great price ($6) I use After Glo everyday for a great peachy blush and Bronze Glo and Golden Glo work well as a bronzer.
Technique: Apply bronzer in a big “c” around your eyes brushing on and under your cheekbone and lightly over your eyes on the temples. Add blush on the apples of your cheeks for a healthy glow.
Don’t forget to tap off excess powder on brush before applying and use the brush to blend once the powder has been dispersed on cheek. When in doubt, blend and check your makeup in natural light.
Lena Hartford from Hair That Moves talks about choosing the right hair style for the big day!

When choosing a hair style for your wedding, some brides like to follow “wedding trends” from magazines and there are thousands of options to choose from so picking the right style for you can be daunting. Here are some pieces of advice when thinking about a hair style:
Classic vs. Trendy
-A classic style will look the best in photos when you look at yourself years down the road. If you are choosing a hair style that is trendy - great! But it also needs to compliment your dress and overall look and feel of the wedding -not overpower them. For instance, if you are having a formal ceremony, a formal updo with a long veil and several pieces of decor is appropriate. However, a formal style may not fit a beachside or outdoor ceremony. I would recommend a soft look to go with the natural background.
Consultations and Trial Runs
-The most important part of choosing a style comes at your consultation. This appointment includes talking about these details and asking a professional for their take on what may work for each situation. For instance, a style that is not secure to withstand the windy elements of a beachside ceremony may not be a good choice.
Love the soft, long waves. My hair can actually do this, so this ’do may be a possibility. Maybe a flower instead of the bow. Though the bow is very sweet. I always wear my hair down, so I will most likely be wearing it down for the wedding. Though half tied-up is a good compromise. Plus, I decided to wear my hair up for my sister’s wedding this July, just to say I wore it up. And it is hot in July. ![]()

I had so much fun at the Modern Bride Trendsetter Awards dinner last night! The fantabulous Preston Bailey presented my award. Christian of Project Runway, Bethanny from The Real Housewives of New York, Kristin Davis from Sex and the City, and more were in attendance. And there were so many rockstar vendors in the wedding world that I finally got a chance to meet. More details to come!
The majority of you liked Dress #1, so that’s what I ended up wearing! Ai Sakai did my hair and makeup — I have to say that I loved my makeup, but I was completely and utterly in love with my hair! Thanks so much for transforming me Ai!

I am very excited to be a part of New York Magazine’s Bridal Hairstyles Shop-A-Matic! I have to give props to my hair diva, Jennie Brent and to fab photographer Danny Weiss. Gorgeous Melissa is the bride, and Jennie did a two-in-one hairstyle. It started out as a sophisticated updo, and then after the ceremony all Melissa had to do was loosen a few pins and voila - sexy waves for dancing.
The Shop-A-Matic feature is really great for the bride and has about 100 photos of real bride hairdo’s and many other categories geared toward the bride. Check it out for great wedding inspiration!
Okay, one of my goals (besides world domination) is to be on the New York Magazine’s Best of Wedding List. I have tried to crack the code of how to get on this list but I have had no luck. I am now one step closer to this goal! ![]()
