I love all of the amazing inspiration boards that are put together by designers- it’s such a beautiful display of possibilities. However, when I was a bride, I also loved seeing what real brides had done. Brides who had to work on a budget, or for whom the crystal chandelier in the tree wasn’t going to be a practical reality. So, a while ago I decided to start doing inspiration board style layouts of wedding details from real weddings. There are about a dozen here and while many revolve around strong color combinations, sometimes more subtle themes emerge from the set of details as well. One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to see what creative details the 2009 brides come up with!!

The headlines report of gloom and doom. The stock market crash is giving me the blues. The forecast says fog is rolling in. It’s hard to find something to smile about. We all need a little lift.
At this moment, I need something to give me life, something that’s sweet, something that reminds me of sunny days and careful moments. So today, I dug into my archives and came up with one of the most cheerful weddings that I have ever done. Thanks in part of the wonderful husband and wife team of Geoff and Lara White who captured the vibrancy of this event. From the orange tie that the Groom wore to the colorful bouquet that the bride held, it truly was one of the most vibrant weddings I’ve done. Tell me, can you resist little white shoes with bright green pom pom mums attached to the buckle. Come on - you’ve got to smile!

There’s something cool about the hues of sapphire, graphite, taupe, sky, and peridot. Together this combination is arresting, simply sophisticated, too cool, serene yet relaxed, serious but not overly pretentious; rare. This is definitely a San Francisco kind of wedding, and there really isn’t a better location than the Hotel Vitale. The patio decks are the perfect spot for this urbane event. And nothing comes close to the charm of a cable car motif and dainty pastries by I Dream Of Cake. The final touch of a beloved photo tucked into the bridal bouquet captures the essence of what really matters. Only the most confident of brides choose such hues, and it works! Hotel Vitale was the perfect venue, and the Ferry Building provided the fantastic background.
These images by Melinda Li are dynamite. Lighting and drapes were done by the fabulous Enhanced Lighting. Furniture by BluePrint Studios and linens were provided by Wildflower Linens. All the fine detail touches and coordination were done gracefully by MB Weddings. The fabulous bridesmaid dress is a Priscilla of Boston.

One of my favorite color palettes for weddings include Peony Pink, Satin Ivory, and Warm Champagne hues. Last year, Rose Marie Lion captured the essence of our beautiful and gracious couple, Atsu and Ryan, who ventured from New York to celebrate their wedding in Napa Valley. Their wedding at Auberge du Soleil was one of my favorites from 2007 and I hope it will inspire your wedding.
What are some of your favorite color palettes for weddings?
In honor of Twilight the movie premiering today, I have put together a series of inspirations that are utterly vampire chic. If you haven’t heard of Twilight, it’s the teenage vampire book series by Stephenie Meyer that has become an obsession at the WV. I have put together some things that were inspired by the books, and also happened to be utterly gorgeous.
