I thought I would share some of the pretty pictures I took of the fabulous Soi Même eco-chic bridal event this past weekend. There were some fabulous vendors at the event including: our fabulous host Sarah Shewey from Pink Cloud Events; the insanely talented Paige of Bash Eco Events; Lindee of Puridee, gorgeous sustainable wedding gowns; Cakes by the Pound, to die for desserts and stunning cakes; the adorable Dana LaRue of the broke ass bride; Good Gracious events; Nailah of Safiya Beauty; Seed Floral & Event Design; BBJ Linens; and the fabulous Tracy Hepler from Your Daily Thread.

Here are some of my favorite DIY ideas I have spotted around recently. Take a look, borrow, change them a bit to be your own, and voila! Handmade touches for your wedding day…

These adorable picnic areas would make the cutest lounge area, forget the sleek white modern furniture, go for a more relaxed vibe with color coordinated pillows and blankets in the grass! Photo via Once Wed. Loving the vintage books piled up with the mason jar on top. What adorable center pieces these would make. Even during a cocktail reception these would be perfect! Photo via Once Wed. I am absolutely loving the look of these apple crates on the wall. Like shadow boxes. Photo via Style Me Pretty. I am a huge fan of the cheese platter, and this one is absolutely perfect. Spread out on a long wooden table with chalkboard name plates. Perfection! Photo via Style Me Pretty. The polaroids strung on a clothesline act as a guest book that everyone can enjoy at the reception. Photo via Style Me Pretty. Chalkboard used as a menu or bar menu…lovely. Photo via Style Me Pretty. Loving the vintage hankies that are used as napkins, seating cards and favors!! Love that! Photo via the Nichols. Lastly the sugar rimmed mason jars for your signature cocktail have the perfect blend of casual and chic for my taste! Photo via the Nichols.

Earlier this summer I received a lovely email from Monika in Sweden. She spoke of her plans for a September wedding at a countryside Inn and a day filled with thoughtful details for her guests. After working through the first design round of her Vintage Stamped Tree invitation, her partner Gordon sent me a beautiful email (it is not often I can describe email as beautiful) detailing more design direction. It is the following paragraph that stopped me in my tracks and immediately transported me to the magical day he so expertly described. So this is what Gordon wrote:
“We want to express to you the feeling of a late summer’s afternoon with golden sunlight trickling through the trees. Baskets of apples and pears. Relaxed smiles after happy vacations. Boisterous conversation and laughter over glasses of champagne and bottles of beer. Creamy cake with berries. Kind of a garden party/barbaque equals good wedding party! Not to forget: the two of us, of course. Have a look at the splendour of Monika’s lovely bouquet! I’m getting all carried away now, so I’d better stop.”
Gordon, please do not stop! I was so enchanted by his words I just had to share. I certainly would love to be on Monika and Gordon’s guest list, wouldn’t you?
This little collection kind of sums up my summer obsessions… and while summer may be ending, my love for these lovelies lives on…

{1} Bonnie Tsang’s food blog is to die for as is this shoot she did at the new and fabulous Sweet and Saucy Shop {2} How amazing are these ruffle curtains from Anthropologie…I want to wear them! {3} how adorable are these pie pops!! too cute. I spotted them over on Bash Eco Events, via Bakerella {4} Pimp My Cupcake station at the most adorable shower ever for Jessica Claire, shot by Chenin Boutwell {5} Amy Butler amazing rugs! {6} gorgeous dress as seen in the latest issue of Utterly Engaged shot by Charley Star {7} You-color-it print by Stephanie Corfee, this reminds me of when I was little!! I so need one… or ten!
As soon as September comes around, I start looking towards the trees, waiting for them to explode with color, and become bright and red and orange and yellow. Fall is my favorite season – I love the slight chill in the air, the wonderful smells, pumpkins, apples, and that slightly soft and smoky scent you can catch in the air.
Now, take a wedding, and put it in the fall? Totally my favorite!
So this week’s Esty Friday is inspired by my favorite season – August can’t end soon enough! Autumn, I’m waiting for you!

I LOVE these little white pumpkin baskets, perfect for the flower girl to scatter petals out of, or even to have your bridesmaids carry with a small floral arrangement inside. Beautiful!
Well, after some pretty busy work weeks I found myself with a free weekend night (a rare thing for me) and so some friends and I planned a last minute summer BBQ. We all love good food so instead of buying in lots of stuff we all brought dishes…it was so much fun! I made a total of four things with the help of my friend Kate. I tried a new recipe from Food & Wine magazine and absolutely loved it. The recipe is from Sue Zemanick, who was voted “Best New Chef” by Food & Wine magazine last year. The recipe was Chile-Lime Crab Salad with Tomato and Avocado. I highly recommend trying it out and not skimping on the quality of the ingredients. This salad is so fresh and tasty, but must have top quality ingredients for you to get the full experience.

We recently worked on a wedding taking place at the Adamson House in Malibu, CA. We always love this venue and this wedding was especially gorgeous. Elegantly low-key, this fete had a “backyard wedding” feel that was successfully pulled together by the ever-so-talented Beth Helmstetter.

Part 1: Meet Sarah & John!
Part 2: First Meeting, First Outline
Part 3: Creating Rituals
Sarah and John had a lot of interesting ways to incorporate their family and friends into their wedding ceremony, but this had to be my favorite: their readers.

They asked six of their friends (three couples) to each choose a reading to present during the wedding ceremony. I thought it was great that they were going to let their friends choose the readings, so they could pick something that they thought was very representative and appropriate for Sarah and John. But here’s the big thing: they asked me to keep the readings a secret from that!
That’s right – the readers “reported” directly into me. I placed the readings into the ceremony, based on their content, and had full veto power if something wasn’t quite right or a duplicate. But the bride and groom had no idea what was going to be read at their wedding!
I sent the readers an email, with some of my favorite wedding reading resources, a deadline, and encouraged them to use me as a resource as well – to ask me any questions, have me offer suggestions, or simply point them in the right direction. But all six friends did a fabulous job and picked perfect readings for the wedding!
The first reading was a selection of notes that Charles Darwin had written down in his sketchbook – the pros and cons of getting married. It was a piece I had never seen before, and I love it!
