Kim is an art teacher at a private school near San Francisco, and the parent of one of her students introduced her to Ping. They decided to get married in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, at Grosse Pointe Academy where Kim’s father is the headmaster. Combining elements of education and Chinese tradition, Kim and Ping’s wedding was a visual delight!
I am going to forego many of the unique storytelling images to share this visual masterpiece with you through the many thoughtful details.
Michigan is the “cherry state.” Kim drew their wedding logo, and it appeared consistently throughout their wedding.
Tracy & Jeff are two of the sweetest people I’ve met and they absolutely glow when they’re together!!! Their wedding had vintage inspired details of lace and ribbons, but with an updated color palette of deep purples, bold pinks, and soft champagne. I’ve always loved looking at inspiration boards pieced together by designers, so I thought I’d create one to show off all the wedding details in one place! ![]()

I have to admit that I get a little jealous whenever I photograph an engagement session for a couple whose wedding I won’t get to photograph! It’s like I get a little crush on the people while I photograph them and I then I wish that I could be their only photographer! I know it’s my own fault because I can’t be everywhere at once… sadly. Sarah & Ed are one of those couples that I won’t get to see walk down the aisle, but I’m so glad that we got to do an engagement session together!

I had soooo much fun with these engagement photos!! I met Christine when we were both in the Music Education program at Oakland University and found that she was one of the nicest people ever, and that we had a lot in common. She and Joce were high school sweethearts, except that they went their separate ways for a while after high school only to fall in love again…. and this time they’re both ready to make that life-long commitment to each other. When Christine showed me some awesome pictures that she and Joce took of each other at Clinton River Park when they were in high school, I thought it would be great if we could go back to the park and be inspired by the fun memories they had there.

Interestingly, I first met Matt at Costco where he was working as Photo Lab Tech. I was running some test prints through their machines and testing out the effects of different papers, inks, and processing. For the record, I LOVE Costco for my personal family and vacation photos, but don’t use them for my client or fine art printing (not that they aren’t worthy!) Matt helped me understand that mini-labs make automatic corrections to images which actually ends up ruining the ones I’ve already corrected and processed! From then on, I learned that I needed to make sure the lab turned off any auto-corrections to my images before printing them. I digress… so anyway, that’s how we met.

What do you do when the bride lives in Montana, the groom lives in Texas, and the photographer lives in Indiana?? Have the engagement session in Michigan, of course!! Rain or shine, this engagement session was going to happen, because getting all of the stars aligned again wouldn’t be likely until the wedding day!
