Fancy Miss Fiona

December 18th, 2008 @ 1:44 pm by Chelsea Petaja @ Oh My Deer

This lovely lady is a reserved piece for a bride with a love for vintage and lace. And I mean, heck, I felt prettier by just putting Fiona on to take a picture!

More Lovelies

December 17th, 2008 @ 1:55 pm by Chelsea Petaja @ Oh My Deer

So maybe I went a little crazy with headbands and guinea feathers tonight. At least I married a handsome-bearded-photographer that puts up with my constant requests for pictures.

{ Miss Florence }

This headband makes me want to want to wear a sassy, business dress and work in heels. That dream would last for a day, and then it would become a nightmare.

Here they are, ladies and germs!

Finally-finally-finally, I’ve gotten around to posting some of the pieces used in the NOT Wedding a month or so ago.

I’ll be back to working on custom orders after the new year. I hope you’re all enjoying gingerbread and eggnog and everything else that only happens around Christmas.

{ Miss Rosalie }

About ohmydeer

Though I’m a firm believer in New Year’s being overrated, I still have the romantic in me that imagines the husband and I, dressed in our holiday’s best, shouting the countdown, and kissing at midnight while confetti rains down on us. (Or maybe I’m just wishing we were Marisa and Ryan in the New Year’s Eve episode of the OC from forever ago… so what if I’m way behind on the times? Those were the glory days.)

So for everyone else out there that inserts themselves into the lives of fictional, ludicrous television characters, I’ve made you a lovely or two for you to wear to your Newport Beach-penthouse-New Year’s Eve party.

One Down, One to Go

December 12th, 2008 @ 6:13 pm by Chelsea Petaja @ Oh My Deer

My sister.

My little sister got married earlier this year.

Though she’ll be the first to admit that she pretty much has no interest in anything “crafty”, I have to applaud my sister’s moss setup. The remnants still aren’t fully vacuumed out of the rug, but she did a great job preparing a palette where these sweet little treats could sit.

This little lady is a custom piece for a spring, garden wedding. I think she’ll fit the mood perfectly, don’t you?

I’m in love with these fabric flowers. They’re just so beautiful and dainty, and dare I say, ethereal? Is that taking it too far? Anyway, here’s the finished product of my first attempt at these, and needless to say, I’m sort of hooked. And oooooh, can’t you just envision them with some guinea feathers to make them just a bit more sassy?

Almost a Petaja

December 9th, 2008 @ 4:10 pm by Chelsea Petaja @ Oh My Deer

Our wedding photographer, Jose Villa, was gracious enough to do an impromptu engagement session a few minutes before our rehearsal dinner. On top of the fact that these images documented us moments before our dinner, and just a day before we were married, I love them even more because of what I’m wearing!  The dress was made by my grandmother for my mother, who wore it to her wedding reception.  I bet you can guess that we’re a pretty sentimental family…

About ohmydeer
When Tec and I enlisted the help of our friends for the wedding, we often bartered our skills with theirs. Bartering feels so right to me. I know it doesn’t fit for all occasions, but it was perfect for the wedding in that it encouraged the community feel we desired for the day… not to mention it helped with the budget.

Anyway, part of the bartering came full circle when Tec shot Joy Williams, who sang at our wedding. And then, to help me and ‘Oh, My Deer!’ out, Joy modeled a couple new pieces! That pretty little head of hers gave the perfect home to Miss Idaline and Miss Bertie Ann, respectively. I know the following images aren’t the most beautiful or artistically creative shots, but they showed off the hair pieces beautifully.

{Miss Idaline}
This little lady is fashioned with an antique swan brooch that’s adorned with the most lovely feathers.

Our Wedding Day

December 5th, 2008 @ 5:00 pm by Chelsea Petaja @ Oh My Deer

Fast-forward through two and a half years of dating, and Tec and I were standing in a barn in the countryside of Tennessee, singing hymns, walking down aisles, pledging vows, and kissing the bride!  From the get-go, our vision of the Big Day was in sync, and after we made the big decisions (photographer, location… and dress!) everything else just fell into place. It also helped that we agreed that our only splurge would be the photographer.  Go figure, right?  Ha.  (FYI, my husband is a wedding photographer.  There was really only one option for him: Jose Villa.)  We knew that if we had someone making our day look as epic as it actually was, we would get creative and work out the relatively tight budget accordingly.  And with tons of sweat and love from our friends and family, a beautiful day full of love and romance and memories was pulled off.  I truly can’t imagine it having been any more “us”.
