About Me: The Treasured Petal is a reflection of my love for scrumptious flowers, yummy textures, colors, ribbons, and all the other girly splurges that being a florist allows me to enjoy on a daily basis. Although I don't discriminate when it comes to flowers, my two favorites would have to be cattleya orchids and gloriosa lilies, which I carried in a ginormous bouquet on my wedding day. When I'm not crafting wedding florals and consulting with brides, I am usually at the dog park with my dogs Pesto and Basil, cooking healthy vegan dinners, watching Seinfeld with my husband Joe, at Bible study, or scouring craigslist for antique furniture to fill up my new house. I am also kind of a home-body and really love sipping tea in my pajamas while working my way down my google reader blog list!
As I was poring over Southern Wedding Mag's gorgeous blog-site, I happened to see a familiar bouquet in the “Inspiring Details” section, and it instantly brought back memories from one of the most stylish weddings I've been a part of.

It was snapped by the amazing Jessica Claire back in May, before The Treasured Petal blog had been born. Angel Swanson coordinated Monika and Nicholas' swanky, vintage-inspired wedding.

About Me: People often ask me how I got my start in wedding photography. The truth is i fell into it. Almost by accident. But after my first wedding I was sold. I moved full force ahead. And within a year I went full-time leaving behind my life as a therapist and social worker. And the rest, as they say, is history. In November I celebrated my 3rd year of being a full-time photographer! Today, I feel so blessed to get to do something I love and to work with amazing couples all over the country and world! I have traveled to the Bahamas, Jamaica, all over Mexico and all the way to England to shoot weddings. I live in southern California with my husband, two sons, two really loud birds and a short, fat yellow lab named Mrs. Jones. All, at various times, make an appearance on my blog.
we average out to about a normal sized person… That's what Audrey told me when I met David for the first time. He's tall, she's short, but they both are fun and we had a blast doing their engagement photos around downtown San Diego. See you guys SOON I can't wait for the wedding!

Today I received a disc of images (courtesy of Derek Photo) from a sweet couple I worked with back in July, Kristi and Lou. Knowing their colors were chartreuse and fuchsia (MY wedding colors!), I brought my handy-dandy green and magenta flower fan decks with me to our initial consultation.

A note about the fandecks: I have a fandeck in every color of the rainbow. Each fandeck has a card for every cut flower imaginable, along with helpful info about its seasonal availability, how to care for and store the flower, other colors the flower comes in, and what the flower symbolizes. These booklets are absolute essentials for consultations, especially for visual brides who aren't quite sure what flowers they like right off the bat. If I were stranded on a desert island, I just might have to bring these with me.
As Kristi poured over the fandecks, she ooed and ahhed over almost every flower. Her one flower dislike was roses. I noticed that Kristi tended to lean toward what I call “crunchy” flowers, like crisp orchids, lilies, and spider mums.

Well it has definitely crept up on me! Christmas + Hannuka are almost here. With that on the brain I have put together a wish list. Maybe these will inspire your last minute gifts.

{1} Letterpress Wood Type Large: Pick-A-Number. These would look so great around the studio! {2} Knitted Coffee Sleeves. They are cotton cable knit, and look so cozy! {3} Shrinky Dink Sheets look like so much fun! I want to have a shrinky dink party! And this Ready Made - How to Make Almost Everything book looks amazing. DIY to last a lifetime (almost). {4} Honey Flight for Cheese. Each honey flavor, like blueberry honey, has a suggested cheese pairing! {5} Connoisseur Cheese Club. You receive 4 different types of cheese + an accompaniment each month! That is my dream come true! And how perfect to enjoy with the Honey Flight.

This wedding was total gorgeousness. Seb and Brian wanted an elegant, romantic, candlelit wedding with a touch of rustic charm. Their incredible Spanish-styled venue, Villa Del Sol, is a hidden courtyard tucked behind a few bars and restaurants in Downtown Fullerton. It's a beautiful little oasis from the rambunctious nightlife all around.
Brian and Seb chose a gorgeous color palette of dusty rose, lavender, and silver against a canvas of deep brown. One of the motifs was trees- dark wooden boxes for the centerpieces, manzanita branches for the ceremony, beautiful tree-stamped programs and bits of eucalyptus used as escort cards. The flowers of the day included roses, hydrangea, lisianthus, giant dinner plate dahlias, and fragrant sprigs of fresh English lavender. Hundreds and hundreds of mason jar candles added a warm glow to the long banquet tables. The atmosphere was classy yet cozy at the same time.
All of the following images are courtesy of talented Dennis Viera Photography. They captured the night so beautifully!

This is something I treasure, that sits at my desk. It's a tiny little house made by Mary Wiley that Emily lent to me, to give me constant inspiration! The details in this piece are absolutely amazing, and it becomes clear why Mary Wiley's namesake is found in our company name.

A couple months ago, one of my favorite photographers, Jasmine Star, asked me if I'd like to create a unique, over the top bouquet for a special day after shoot she'll be photographing. She basically gave me free reign with this, and told me to create a work of art. Her one rule — must not be a perfect “roundy moundy” (as my old floral instructor called it) of flowers tied with a ribbon. Of course, I'm up for it! But, no rules? No predetermined color palette? No list of flower likes and dislikes to work from? Challenging, but sooo fun.
While reading my daily dose of wedding, style, and home decorating blogs, I came upon these images by Jacqueline Veissid via All Things Bright and Beautiful that just took my breath away.

The beautiful red, black and mustard florals against the thick white satin. The red-stained lips, and the golden bird perched on her finger. So beautiful!

I have always had this fascination for terrariums, especially miniature ones. The idea of a tiny world, all closed up and thriving on its own is so cool! While perusing design*sponge, I saw these great ones by The Oak Leaves available on Etsy. They are just so perfect, made in old glass jars and they even sell terrarium accents!! I mean seriously! The little mushrooms are available in customizable colors as well. There is something so whimsical about mushrooms. These are SO on my holiday wish list.

Let me start by saying how much I adore San Francisco. Every time I visit, I come across the most visually inspiring places. From Miette, the oh so fabulous candy shoppe, to the farmers market at the Ferry building, SF never disappoints. That first shot at Miette is one of my favorite pictures. The wall paper is to die for, not to mention the typography on that apple crate!
