I’m so happy that I no longer have to keep this a secret. This month’s Martha Stewart Weddings Fall issue hit the stands, and in it is the wedding story of the lovely design expert Grace from Design*sponge
I love the South. And when Grace told me she was planning to have her wedding in Savannah, I flipped! I knew it would be the most charming and beautiful event. I wanted to make her a ring pillow from the day she gave me the great news about her engagement, and lucky for me, Grace wanted a ring pillow despite the fact that she wasn’t planning on having a traditional ring bearer. In the end, one of the groomsmen carried the pillow, which was just one in a very long list of unique touches in an especially endearing wedding.
Here are some inspirations Grace sent me.
Nicole and Keith were married this past August at a lake in northern MN at the bride’s parents’ resort Brindley Sharbor — a beautiful setting for a wedding.
The ceremony was small and informal, romantic, elegant and surrounded by nature. It took place under a homemade arbor made of old vines and branches. The flower arrangements were organic in design in dark oranges, peaches and purples with orchids, dahlias, roses, calla lilies, berries, pomegranate and curly willow — what a fabulous color palette! Bridesmaids wore dresses in aubergine and the flower girl was adorned in a mango dress with aubergine dash.

Back in 2007 when I first started writing my blog, I stumbled upon these lovely little ringbearer bowls on etsy. I fell in love with their simplicity of form and material and the simple message of love each seemed to bear. Well here we are 2 years later where the creations of Caroline of Palomas Nest can be found just about everywhere wedding. Her message hasn’t been diluted by the widespread and well deserved press however, as her creations are continually evolving.
On her site you can read more about Caroline, the process and her inspiration. To quote directly “The inspiration for Paloma’s Nest lies in the purity of the materials used, and the idea that something so simple can be so bold.” Well said. As a colorist myself, I have great respect for artists who can elicit the same impact as I do in my detailed colorful pieces but with a reserved use of color and form. There is something quite calming about Caroline’s smooth, creamy surfaces graced with a touch of texture or an added length of colored twine.
Hello there!
I have a great posting for you today. It’s a wedding we attended a few weeks back in East Hampton — we love it there!

Dad, are we there yet?
Our friends Casey (a talented chef who can turn the most random ingredients into pure deliciousness) and Ryan (a sweet dude and an amazing artist) had an intimate ceremony right on Georgica Beach, and then a casual yet totally fun reception at The Laundry. There was also a BBQ potluck with a bonfire at the beach the night before the wedding — super fun!
My friend Lindsey does an Etsy Friday every week on her blog – she takes a theme, and finds fabulous stuff on Etsy that fits within the theme.
I was going to do a straight wedding ceremony Etsy Friday, but then I started looking up the first item on my list – ring bearer pillows/bowls/etc. – and saw so many great options that I knew it was going to take a few Fridays to hit them all!
So here’s the first installment – ring bearer props! And you don’t have to have a ring bearer to take advantage of these lovely details. If you have a table at the front with other props for the ceremony (unity candle, sand ceremony, wine, etc), you can add a ring pillow or a ring plate on there to store the rings until their big moment – and not have to worry about them!

Things that make you say “awww”. I write a lot about ideas for the ladies -the bride, bridesmaids, flower girl, and sometimes we forget about the men who are part of the big day too. Especially the little men!
Ring bearers are like the hype man for the bride, the Flava Flav to Chuck D. The congregation turns to watch the little guy have his big moment, and excitement begins to build for the entrance of the bride.
It can be a little bit tricky to find gifts for boys, so I picked out some of my favorites that I think would appeal to the traditional ring bearer (ages 3-8). Of course, many of them would make fun gifts for any occasion and would work for flower girls, too!
A handcrafted secret decoder. They come in sets of two so he can give one to a friend! Perhaps the flower girl?
